Well, actually next week, but I'm already practicing screaming and beating my head against the wall.  This year I'm going to try something new and ask/tell/order/beg clients, politely of course, hmmm, to "How about helping me out by opening your tax docs and laying them out flat for me.  Ya think you can do that, huh?"

I swear, my bosses clients all know me and like me, but the ultimate of unspoken rude is to shove a pile of unopened mail at your accountant.  Sometimes it takes longer to open it all than it does to input the info.

My tax season boss said he's got a new scanner there now that scans the docs, then automatically enters the info into the tax program.  This I gotta see.  Hmmm, maybe it opens the mail too.

OK, well, thanks for the look-see here, and remember, be good to your tax accountant, he/she is on your side.

Oh yeah, and "I'm only in it for the money" comes to mind.  I'd rather do straight-off accounting at home, but some of that dropped off in recent years.

I must be a good customer, I have all my receivables and deductables added up in categories and typed out on paper with each category of reciepts in its own file. I always thought my system would pay off if audited.

I always do mine myself using the free online turbo tax software. It works great if you have a simple tax return like I do and it walks you through everything so you don't get confused. As a matter of fact, I got my refund today. Cheesy

Steve M:  Yeah, you're a good client, but not too many clients do that.  They all should, it would help a lot.

TacitBlue:  I'm sure Turbo and others like that work fine.  My boss uses some high level pro tax program, of course.  I haven't seen any programs like Turbo etc., I do mine manually from downloaded IRS pdf's, it's faster for me that way.

If you expect a refund, the sooner you file, the sooner you get it.  The IRS is pretty fast with refunds if you e-file.

I really don't know a whole lot about US taxation, nor do I want to, it's all very complicated.  I just do no-brainer input, dull, dull, dull, but my boss finalizes the returns, so he answers to his clients and the IRS, not me.
