Goodly morning all... Smiley

Well the largest snow storm of this year has been and gone...dropped about twenty to thirty centimeters in the local area to us.

It was nothing compared to what we used to get in the 40s, 50s and 60s.  Why it would snow for several days and accumulate in feet not centimeters... Grin

Children walked to school also, rain, shine, sleet and snow, none of this school bus nonsense either, a good five mile walk never hurt anyone twice a day... Wink

Well we are going to the old homestead today.  The oldest son is away flying his C17 spam can so I shall groom the airstrip for him while the old girl and his wife do some baking.... Smiley
Grooming the strip will take several hours and who knows, may just have to try it out.... Wink       Grin

Will also be stopping at the local bugsmasher field to listen to a few lies around the bullshit table those old retired rocking chair flying geezers like to tell.... Roll Eyes

Now you folks know me...I would never tell a tall tale there... Roll Eyes      Lips Sealed      Grin

Well will let you know if I hear any good flying gossip later,  time to go find the ear plugs as the old girl is going with me.... Tongue

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
P.S.  Oh I shall be back in the saddle again
        Flying my bugsmasher again.... Grin

Goodly afternoon all... Smiley

Just to do a follow up.

The grooming took me twice as long as it should have.  The outside temp was about minus twenty-four Celsius without the wind chill.
The wind never died down all day so drifts kept popping up.
Almost a waste of diesel fuel.

It was late when we arrived at the local bugsmasher field and most folks had stayed home from what we heard.  Two newer members were discussing something about an ultra light proposal to use the field from an Ultralight Club.

As there is no hangar space available right now a new hangar would need to be erected as the winds here would tear an ultra light to shreds or pick it up and damage it.

Today is as cold as yesterday with very high winds off the lake, bay and river.  More snow on the way today and for the weekend.

That is about all I can report other than our family dinner was exceptional... Wink

I shoveled a small (5 to 6 vehicle) rear parking lot -- about two feet deep on average -- as well as the front walk; yes, it was cold (one establishment changed his business sign to "BRRRRR").

I hope you didn't waste too much on your waist... waist high is quite deep... and I hope a lit match wasn't the intended reason for titling this "It is over..."
It would have warmed things up for a while but I'm glad you changed your mind.

Thanks "H" for catching that and I changed it.

Normally I check my grammar and spelling but somehow that one went right by me... Grin

You folks seem to get more snow than we do.  The Bugsmasher Field only had a total of three feet and that is todate.  Drifting is the problem right now and visibility is down to near zero on one of our major highways in several locations.

I wouldn't worry about getting a lot of snow this weekend, some flurries mostly.  Whenever they say we are going to get a snow storm it does not seem to amout to much.

Oh and I saw a Cessna 172 on skis which I forgot to mention earlier.  They must purchase their fuel at grass fields with fuel pumps as the aircraft was only on skis and no wheels.  Very few Bugsmasher Strips have fuel trucks.
It was not a local aircraft so no idea where they came in from, probably just visiting.

Thanks Greg... Smiley

Cool that you replied... Smiley

A lot of folks south of our border do not realize that we do get tornadoes here in Southern Ontario as well.

I saw a barn that was several hundred years old and still being used that was demolished by a tornado.
The insurance company rebuilt a beautiful metal barn for the owners.
Several months later it was destroyed by another tornado.

It would not surprise me to hear that several pork and dairy farms north of us will be buying water this year just because of the lack of snow.
Very little snow here but we do get strong winds off the lake and bay.

I am sure I mentioned before that when it is cold here, it is a damp cold because of the Great Lakes, bays and rivers where the farther north one travels it is a much drier cold and much more comfortable.
When one goes out they just dress in layers of clothing so we get used to it.

Oh and yes we had an earth tremor several months ago, I was sitting right here at the computer and the desk and my chair moved about eight inches away from the wall.  It was all over in seconds.   I guess the earth tremor followed the Great Lakes.

I made a quick run to the drug store just before dark to get some refills. I had on a short sleeve t-shirt and had the windows down. It was very comfortable. I think it got up to 75 F today. But I dread this summer, the humidity with the heat is awful.

...
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Hi Larry... Smiley

That is a comfortable temperature alright.

It is the dampness or humidity that gets to most folks.

We have always been on or near water so there is usually a nice breeze in the summer with the winds somewhat stronger during the winter months.

I do not think we would be comfortable living in your area during the summer season because of the heat and humidity.  Seventy to seventy-five fahrenheit degrees I think would be just right.
Would be nice to have that year round... Grin
