I want to get rid of all the 3 or more chimney power stations, & the huge stone churches I see scattered around my landscape, & all those huge tower blocks too while I'm at it. How might this be done?
Thanks,
Terry.

Can you post some screenshots of exactly what buildings you want to remove?

Some objects are more difficult to remove than others.

Have you tried moving the sliders for "Scenery complexity" and "Autogen density" to the left?

regards,
Joe

If the objects in question are "Autogen" objects, then you may find the information in the Autogen SDK from Microsoft;

http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/d/4/3d460861-18ca-433c-9118-75f749ecce3...

The SDK is a comprehensive manual for working with Autogen and also editing the default.xml file which apparently controls the display of autogenerated elements.

It is a bit too technical for me but thought it might be useful for you.

It would appear that these power stations & churches (see pics) are autogen. I tried turning the slider to the left & had to go over 1/2 way before they disappeared but 3/4 of the trees & other building went leaving a denuded landscape to look at Angry

I'll check the autogen link Dave but if it's too technical for you then I'm sunk!!...

By "too technical" I really meant that "given enough time" I could likely figure it out - but time is a precious commodity for me right now so I have not delved into it.

As it is I'm excluding these buildings when they're too close to an airfield I want to screenshot, but it's a real bind. I've not looked at the autogen d/l yet but will have a go in the morning......watch this space Roll Eyes

You probably will want to grab a copy of this file - libobj2004.zip by Winfried Orthmann.

It lists all of the default objects along with their GUID code - which should make editing the default.xml a bit easier.

If it is not available in the library here, other sites do have it.

The church is indeed an autogen object. You can easily remove them by editing the default.xml file found in Flight Simulator 9\Autogen.

First thing, make a backup copy.

Then search the document (you can edit it with Notepad) for building_5

There is one instance of it.

Next delete everything you see here...
Code:
			<LIBRARYOBJECT>

			</LIBRARYOBJECT>

Now save your changes and you have removed those churches from Europe, which is the only place they are used as autogen.

You may still find one from time to time, if it has been placed in a specific location, either by an addon or by default in FS9. If you do find one, it has been placed in a specific location to replicate a real-world building.

The factories are another matter as they are default scenery objects and not autogen.

The legal way to remove them is to create an exclude file for those you wish to remove.

To remove them globally would require de-compiling default files, making changes, and re-compiling them. This is in violation of the EULA you agreed to when you installed FS on your PC. The software police will not come knocking on your door if you do this for your own use, just don't distribute the files to the general public...wink, wink.

If creating excludes is truly bothersome, PM me and I will help you there.

cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe,
I deleted building_5 & I then found this <LIBRARYOBJECT>

         </LIBRARYOBJECT>
toward the bottom of the list, so I deleted this entry as well, just in case it's the one I want to remove.
The problem is, however, I still see all these churches & power stations in abundance. The editing doesn't work. It may be the pictured power station isn't the one refered to as 'gen_powerstation01'.

I just want them removed from the UK.

Editing default.xml will not affect the factories as they are not autogen.

Can you post the exact location of a church or two so I can test on my end?

A screenshot showing lat/lon will be great.

Are you using default ground textures?

cheers,
Joe

Good morning Joe...you call them factories I call them power stations?
Churches: here's lat/lon for one near Heathrow = N51* 22.31'  W0* 20.48'
& 2 in Bournemouth = N50 44.07 W1 50.52

I don't call them factories, Microsoft did Wink

I do not have churches at those coordinates. This could happen for a couple reasons.

Please check your personal messages.

cheers,
Joe

You can try to use this tool:

Go to http://www.avsim.net/
search and download excbuilderv2.zip

It create a simple BGL file that exclude all autogen objects in a square you specify by coordinates. You can also choose what to exclude.

Hope it helps?

Thanks but I did say I'm excluding objects so I assumed my using excludebuilder was understood......but it's a labourious way of doing it. I just want all those churches & factories removed en-block. Wink
