Goodly morning all...
So what do us Old Retired Rocking Chair Flying Geezers talk about at the bugsmasher field?
Well when the women folk are not with us most of us lie right through our teeth making fishing tales sound like boyscout stories...
My second stop at the bugsmasher field, the first without the old girl this year, 2011 found the flying club house full of old retired rocking chair flying geezers and a few other male members as well.
They gave me time to fill my large mug full of tea, three sugars and two pulls on the cows teat before asking me what I was up to.
Telling them I had not purchased a new computer system, a motion chair or anything else that would go with a flight simulator because I was in the holding pattern waiting for Microsoft to deploy this new program called "Flight".
Most sipped on their tea or coffee and nodded in agreement.
Many like myself had purchased new computer systems to use Vista and FSX and although FSX is a good game it is still not what we all were looking for.
Now mind you some of these old retired rocking chair flying geezers are still using FS2004 and there are some discussions at the Bull Shit Table here over what is better, FSX or FS2004.
Mentioning that I had priced out the cost of a new system they were all ears.
Cyber Power PC Black Pearl with some goodies for $9,336.00 without taxes.
Add another $4,000.00 for a motion chair.
Mentioning also I looked at the Alienware Area-51 ALX with an Intel Core i7 960 Processor and some other goodies along with a Gaming PC called "Destroyer" for around $3000.00 without taxes.
I told them there were a few stumbling blocks in my path, everywhere I turned there was something new.
Little things like:
SSD...now I know what a SST is...a supersonic transport so I thought SSD was a supersonic destroyer.
It is not you know...it stands for Solid State Drive...now who would have thought of that?
Cyberspace...now I thought that was above the white or black puffy wuffies...nope
It is a computer network consisting of a worldwide network of computer networks that use the TCP/IP network protocols to facilitate data transmission or exchange...now who would have thought of that?
TCP/IP...now I thought TCP stood for Trans Canada Pipeline...nope
A set of protcols (including TCP) developed for the internet in the 1970s to get data from one network device to another...now who would have thought of that?
Cyber...well I thought that was one of those things that walked around shooting folks on those space programs...nope
It is relating to information, technology, computers or the internet...now who would have thought of that?
Well I noticed half a dozen younger members choked on their drinks and adjourned to another room where the rest of us old retired rocking chair flying geezers heard strange sounds and what sounded like things being rolled on the floor.
Well the remainder of us went out on the snowy flight line and tried to figure out how we could turn one of these real flying machines into a flight simulator with motion for the flying club.
We need a meeting now because there are some holes in the walls that need to be made here at the flying club and we will need a vote on who's aeroplane we should use...
Well now you know about some of the things we old retired rocking chair flying geezers gab about at the bugsmasher field when the women folk are not about...
Have a great day...

I know eggsactly how you feel Doug. I even expressed it in a poem a few years ago and got it published. No, I did not make any money on it. It was one of those deals at Poetry.com and I had to pay for the book.
Anyway, I thought I would share it with you.

Well, my old buddy, Billy Jack Pendragon,
Told me I needed to get on the wagon.
He was talkin’ ‘bout technology, said it was a hooter.
Then he told me about his brand new computer.
He said, “there’s a thing, they call the internet;
With e-mail and chat rooms, a whole dang banquet.”
All I had to do was “go to Wal-Mart;
Seven ninety-nine would load my shopping cart.”
But Billy didn’t tell me, about control, alt, delete;
Or all of the problems, that I would meet.
Virus and spam and crash and burn,
Or how dang hard, it was to learn.
Of all the little buttons in that keyboard seat;
The ones I use the most, are control, alt, delete.
I had no idea, I was getting’ ripped off;
By a man named Gates, and his Microsoft.
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Flying Trucker, did you take a computer class while you were on vacation? Or do you know a little more about that "electronic gizmo" than you let on?

He knows a lot more than he want's us to think. Trust me, he is a crafty

Goodly morning all...
It is a wonderful winter morning here.
Minus eighteen celsius (-18) without the windchill.
It has been snowing most of the night and it is still snowing...
School cancellations, have not heard of any yet...they should be able to walk to school in snow up to their chest and uphill if they have to...
Great poem Larry...you have many hidden talents...
No TacitBlue, no electronic gizmo classes. The old girl has had several at college.
Our children and grandchildren are all into computers and seem to love school. Me, I hated school, loved to go fishing and hunting.
Guess that is why I ended up being a pilot and not a chef...
The children today talk about:
-sound absorbing foam for computers
-power supply gaskets for computers
-anti vibration fan mounts for computers
-liquid cooling
and many more things
What happened to the days we all talked about aeroplanes, old cars, aeroplanes, half ton trucks, aeroplanes, hunting/fishing, aeroplanes and girls...
....and usually in that order...
Well it is about time I went and annoyed the old girl...

Goodly afternoon all...
Just got off the telephone talking to another member of a local bugsmasher field.
It would seem some snowmobilers sometime between supper last night and 08:00hrs this morning had been out on the strip. They also went between some aircraft and looked insided them and tried the locked door of the club house.
Nothing is out of place and no damage and of course no one knows who they were.
Apparently they can't read signs.
This member also mentioned about buying a new water cooled computer but we did not talk much about that.
I am wondering now, is water cooled on it's way out as there is something better or is it still new technology for computers?
Well there are two military helicopter buzzing up and down the bay, a C17 and several Hercs along with two civilian aircraft doing approaches here.
They are starting to drive me off my rocker, wish they would all go home and have a wobbly pop...
I am starting to get the flying itch, perhaps I should go outside, climb a tree, flap my arms up and down and make aeroplane engine sounds....
