There were not many like that made. RIP Major, you earned it.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

The band gets smaller still - the experiences of those who are left grow ever more valuable.

A true legend amongst many thousands of heroes, although as such a humble man, I suspect he would never have wanted anyone to think so.

RIP.

RIP Maj. Dick Winters, and thank you. My father served with the 101st in Bastogne and got a bit shot up. Not sure which company dad was in though.

That news has really upset me!  I was given the book of Band of Brothers a few years ago which prompted me to buy the DvD set.  There are interviews of the men, including Major Winters, on the DvD's.  What I found remarkable about the Major was that he didn't think he had ever done anything special, he appeared to believe that he had done what anyone would have done in those circumstances when I am sure most of us would have curled up into a ball and gibbered softly.

He was a great man and without people like him the world would be a very different place today.

A remarkable man! Even though I only knew him through movies, documentaries, and books, I always felt like I knew him on a bit more of a personal level.  Sad
