Anybody heard from Doug (Flying Trucker)? I thought he would be back by now.

Atlantic Canada has been pounded by some storms over the holidays and some areas haven't recovered yet. I'm sure Doug is fine but I'm not sure if travel is back on schedule yet, depending on where you are.

'Scuse me while I go look for my brain.  Embarrassed
Never even crossed my mind. Guess we tend to forget about such things down here if we don't do a lot traveling, and I don't. Thanks Steve.

It was warm enough today to ride around with the windows down.

Doug is probably riding with the windows down too, if only to conjur up a new story to post about how much snow got in his car (lawnmower, crop duster, 18 wheeler) and then got banned to the corner of the hangar...

Cheesy

Looking forward to seeing what he comes back with.

Goodly afternoon all... Smiley

Yes we are back home finally...  Smiley

The trip was longer than expected because of the weather on the east coast of Canada.

Our driving trip alone was extended by more than six hours each way because of the road and weather conditions.

Thank God for Land Rover's...we never once felt uncomfortable or unsafe and we saw many many other four wheel drive vehicles in the ditch along with cars and half ton trucks.

To the old girl and me our Land Rover's are like DeHavilland radial engine Otters, the only thing that can replace an Otter is another Otter.... Wink
The only thing that can replace a Land Rover is another Land Rover... Wink

Now as I was saying the weather was atrocious with several deaths reported on the highways.  We have decided that we shall either fly or go by Via Rail (train) the next time.

Christmas Day was green, there was no snow at all in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Rain and very high winds lasted most of the time we were in Nova Scotia.

To us Christmas is not Christmas without SNOW... Smiley

On our return trip we found four major hotels booked solid and that was about four o'clock.  The hotel we finally found after a thirty minute drive had one room left.  It was eight hundred Canadian Dollars for the night and as I was filling out the paper work several other folks arrived and wanted to bid on the room.
You can imagine what I said to them...that's right...Merry Christmas... Grin

We never got to see a lot of the folks we wanted to see but summer is just around the corner so who know's where we shall go.

The trip was a LEARNING EXPERIENCE for both of us.

Having driven and flown the same trip many many times in the past seven decades plus we learned something.

We are not as young as we used to be...you all can take it from there.

We are going to start using the train more, renting a cabin on the train is fabulous.

If we use our own aircraft to fly we shall hire an aviator to do the flying while we co-pilot.  I really don't think I need the hours anymore... Grin
There are a lot of young aviators who would jump at the chance to have an aircraft to fly us about and still be home for their holidays.

While we were in one of the hotels I tried to log onto Simviation to see how everyone was but I was unable to log on.  I tried several times but their system I guess would not let me log on.
Yes there was Internet.

Well folks I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Years, will try to leave some comments in the Photo Section as I just know there are some wonderful shots of all your hard efforts there I shall want to see.

Cheers for now... Smiley     Wink

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
P.S. Holidays are nice....but it is nicer to be Home... Wink
