You need to enable hidden folders to view the FSX Cfg. file.
If you've done this, here is the path to it for Windows: Start/User/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX
Make a backup of the Cfg. file and put it somewhere safe before you make any changes to it
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

So, the AppData folder is there but, no FSX file? Or, can you not access the AppData folder at all?

under the appdata microsoft folder there is no fsx folder period.
i went into the different user folders and i found an fsx folder but it didnt contain the fsx.cfg
i found the fsx folder in a different place and all it contains is a scenery.cfg, old scenery.cfg and 2 folders containing .Indx and .Dat files

In your AppData folder, are there three folders: Local, LocalLow, and Roaming?
It should be in Roaming/Microsoft/FSX. If it's not there, maybe wait and see if anyone else has any ideas but, you could always try running the FSX install disk(s) and choosing the repair option. Make sure you repair Acceleration too, I think the sim just crashes on start-up if you don't.

i was thinking about trying that but i got side tracked.

Ok. so the problem with the repair thing is that i cant edit where it repairs it to, because as i said before i now have my fsx on a portable hard drive and it is repairing and copying new files to my c drive which is much too small for it. and im not sure what to do now

Try contacting support (I had a similiar problem with FTX) from the place where you downloaded it from, or from the REX website.
If they can't help (this is drastic):
Can you make enough space on your local hard-disk to install FSX in it's default location? If so, save your main FSX folder somewhere on your portable hard-drive. Track down anything on your computer that has anything to do with FSX and delete it. Once you've deleted everything you can do a fresh install and FSX will install to it's default location. Then just swap out the FSX main folder with the one you saved on your portable HD (so you don't have to re-download all of your add-ons). Now, you know where the FSX CFG. file is so, all you have to do is show REX the correct path

As long as you know the path to the FSX Cfg. file, just push "Browse" when the REX App. asks where the Cfg. file is. Then browse to the folders' location and push "O.K" or "Enter" whatever it is. You should be set
