I've turned the default Waddington AB into a WW2 RAF base & I have unwanted taxiway markers showing.   Exclusions don't work neither does my turning down autogen - they remain even when at zero. Is there a way of getting rid of these markers, please?   Is it possible to removed them from FS9 altogether even?   Roll Eyes

Removal of taxiway signs is an annoying issue as there are several ways they may have been created.

If you want to "remove" all taxiway signs in FS2004, find the file named aptsigns.bmp in your main texture folder.  It contains all the numbers and letters used in such signs. Disable it by renaming it aptsigns.bmp.original and all the default signs will be gone.

Removing individual signs may be more complicated as you can see by the following quote from Reggie Fields:

"FS2004 has three different methods of creating taxi signs. Some of the detailed airports have taxi signs which are done
as SCASM models. The other signs are created in XML code, but some are in the individual airports and individually
excludable. Other airports have a key sign which must be excluded first."

My own experience has been that in most cases you have to find and exclude that "key" sign first and once that has been done, the others can be excluded easily. There does not appear to be any way to know which sign on a given airport is the "key" one however.  Just a lot of trial and error to find it.

Hope that helps.

I might be wrong in this, but keep in mind that if you disable the Taxiway signs aptsigns.bgl in the Root Texture folder, then that will affect ALL airports in FS9, not just the one that you are wanting to work with.

Now JFK, LGA, LAX, ATL, CLT, and every other one around the world does not have signs.

if you are talking about the Taxiway "lights" the little blue lights on the sides, get AFCAD 2.2.1   there is a setting that "shows" the night lighting / taxi lights, and all you have to do is go to your exact airport, select the light strings, and delete them.

as some other people have said in the past, ... a picture says a thousand words.  can you take a pic and SHOW us what your problem is?

Yes it will remove ALL default taxiway signs - as I mentioned in my response.

I know I would not want that but perhaps he does.

You're right Dave, I do want them removed.
I've installed Golden Wings 3 & as WW2 military airfields didn't have (as far as I know?) these signs, I don't want to see them.  They just look bad in screenshots or I'd not bother  Roll Eyes    The problem occurs when I develope a default airfield.  The ones I make from scratch of course don't have them  Cheesy

Another thought...if I got rid of the texture for all those light poles, etc that sprout in the middle of road or along side, would they go away too?  If so, what's the texture for them?
Thanks.

Thanks.

Taxi signs are unique in that they do not have actual models like most other 3D objects, like light poles and signs along the roads. Removing aptsigns.bmp will remove the signs but interestingly enough, not their shadows.

The roadside obstacles do have 3D models so removing their textures will simply turn them all gray, not remove them.

There are ways to remove the VTP autogen, such as the roadside signs and light poles.

First thing is to make a backup of the terrain.cfg in the main FS9 folder.

Open the terrain.cfg with Notepad and search for // Roads

They start at texture.1134 and continue through texture.1181

Scroll through the list and anywhere you find VectorAutogen=n add // in front of it so it looks like //VectorAutogen=n.

Save the file and viola no more roadside obstacles, worldwide.

cheers,
Joe

Thanks Joe....that works a treat.  Getting rid of them in the UK is all I really wanted & it's great not to have them.   Cool
