...Sweetest sound in the air, a 3350 radial engine pulling a single seat Skyraider, AKA SPAD, AD, Able Dog & Flying Dump Truck!
comments: For all you old Spad drivers out there, this will make you want to go sit in the corner and wind your kinetic Seiko briskly, for there is no sweeter sound than a 3350 at full power, especially during a deck run on a 27 Charlie carrier.
For you less fortunate, this video pretty much captures the sheer joy of flying what I consider the essence of Naval Aviation.
Although this aircraft is shown in Air Force war paint, it is, and always will be, an AD. I refuse to call them A1Hs. I had the distinct privilege of flying the AD4,5,6,&7 and deploying with VA-115 (Shangri La) and VA-145(Oriskany) to WESTPAC during my formative years, where I honed the social graces for which the community is so well known.
One of my biggest regrets is not having had the opportunity of flying this magnificent machine in combat. I had to settle for the A4C and A7E during the Vietnam unpleasantness. Pity!
Again, for all you old Spad drivers, please forward this as I don't have many addresses of those of us who are still with us..
