Also known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)
Where is Greenwich? What is Greenwich Time (GMT)?
Greenwich, England has been the home of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) since 1884. GMT is sometimes called Greenwich Meridian Time because it is measured from the Greenwich Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. Greenwich is the place from where all time zones are measured.
Greenwich Mean (or Meridian) Time is the mean (average) time that the earth takes to rotate from noon-to-noon.
GMT marks precision time and military time (sometimes called
Zulu Time).
Although GMT has been replaced by atomic time (UTC) it is still widely regarded as the correct time for every international time zone
This is why I prefer to use ZULU time when posting an FSX multiplayer session. The one thing that I really like about this FSX multiplayer, is that I've been
talking with people all over the world, kinda like having a
ham radio. So in order to avoid time zone confusions, I will now only post the time in zulu.
Here's a great site to use for your flight planning:
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/Not only will you know what time it is anywhere in the world but as you'll see it contains alot of other info too.
I hope this clears up any confusion (and I apologize), for any missunderstandings on my last flight session post.
So anyway hope to see ya's in the virtual skys, I might be on later today (12/18/10 around
21:00Z)
