There was a article in AOPA Flight Training about this.

CNN got live footage of a Twin engine prop landing without its gears down, The pilot turned his engines off so the propellers wouldn't be as damaged and anchor said that was a great idea, the guy barely made the runway he skidded to a halt on the numbers. Apparently turning off the thing keeping the airplane flying is great idea if you can save a few bucks on repairs  Roll Eyes nevermind the risk of falling short of the runway.

Well not everyone can get a Yak-52... where the gear doesnt retract 100% and the prop can function with 30 cm less blade length (there are 'cut here' marks on the blades)
