Military Releases C-17 Crash Footage, out of respect for the families they don't show the tragic end.

Wow that was a very steep bank. The C-17 is quite maneuverable for its size... but that was way too much bank for such a low altitude. Reminds me alot of the B-52 crash at Fairchild

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

That is exactly what every one at work has said that has seen it now. Also the climb was way steeper then it was supposed to be, every one was surprised he did not fall straight down on take off.

I thought the same... the climb was crazy steep. I was sure it was just gonna nose over and have the same end result.

Did it crash because of the same reason the B-52 crashed, or because the wing, especially the right wing, stalled?

edit: here's the report http://www.pacaf.af.mil/library/aibreports/index.asp

Even though you already know, for every one else, yes it did go down for the same reason as the B-52 did.

If he'd lost an engine in the initial climb he'd have certainly been very poorly placed to recover - hence why min climb speeds and max climb angles are published and/or calculated.

Then again, with the level of negligence shown, it's debatable as to whether he'd have appreciated that anyway.

The reason why they were flying the way they did is because they were practicing and preparing for the airshow there at Elmendorf AFB thus were practicing the moves they were going to present to show the capabilities of the aircraft.

Agreed... I've seen them do that climb at airshows before... It's probablly a best angle (Vx) climb.

I highly doubt it for one reason, you can see him running out of momentum and airspeed towards the top.  An aircraft should be able to sustain airspeed in a Vx climb.  That was a zoom climb, being done by a pilot who was showboating.  Apparently the Air Force did not learn their lesson after the B-52 crash.
