I'm trying to use the F-106 by Kazunori Ito and as modified by Bob Chicilo for FS9 and the trouble is that the landing gear will not appear. It's possible to take-off but landings are not possible.

I've had this trouble before with some of these older models in FS9 and there is a fix for the problem but I cannot remember what it is.

Will somebody please refresh my memory.

Thanks,

Yes, they're both right here at Simviation. The original by Kazunori Ito is "F-106a.zip" and the update by Bob Chicilo is "F-106update.zip".

Incidently they  both work ok in F/S 2002.

Got any ideas ?

Common problem with some older FS2002 "updated" for FS2004. Not sure if there's a work around or not.

Specs: Asus Crosshair nForce 590 SLI,
AMD Athlon X2 6400+ w/ZeroTherm BTF90,
4GB G.Skill PI Series DDR2-800,
Sapphire HD4870 512MB,
PC P&C 750 Quad, in a CoolerMaster HAF932

From what I've been told by airplane creators, there's no real workaround for this.  FS9 reads the animation data differently from previous versions so doesn't "understand" that portion of the mdl file, therefore ignores it;  and you have aircraft with no landing gear, no props, etc.  The mdl file could be tweaked for compatibility with FS9 but, as one person said, if he's going to that much trouble he might as well just create a FS9 airplane.

There is a workaround. When you first select the aircraft in FS9 you will see this option window. For best results click the No option.
...

If you clicked the Yes option you will see this. No gear.
...

To fix it open fs9.cfg in Notepad. Look for this entry under the [FrameCallNoWarn] header

F-106A=0

Change the value to 1

Exit Notepad saving changes & fire up FS9. Voila!

That doesn't work on all aircraft, unfortunately.

Perhaps not but it does work on the F-106 that Gringo6 asked about.

This problem (and it's fix) is explained in detail in Issue Number 7 of Tips and Tricks for FS2004.

Thanks Hagar - that is exactly the fix I was looking for. I'll try to remember it next time.
