Any time i start a flight on the ground - be it the ramp, or the runway - the game load screen comes up, loads to 100% and then defaults to an outside view with the word "CRASH" in the corner of the screen.

Game resumes loading after resetting the situation - same result.

this occurs every time i launch the game.

Have been running the game without problems since release.

no changes have been made to the install.

when i turn on "Ignore Crashes and Damage" this stops happening.

hmmmm, tricky one.
This sounds to me like a contact problem. Does this happen with all of your Aircraft? or just downloaded aircraft?

happens with all of them.

I first noticed it when i tired the rome airline mission.

Immediately after takeoff i experienced some major pitch problems which resulted in loss of control followed by crash.

I restarted the sim with a new aircraft in free flight and instant crash.

started in flight and the wild pitch problems were back in the ultralight trike.

loaded the 747 and experienced no control problems.

im thinking now it might have something to do with my controls or joystick config... but that hasnt been changed since last loading the game about 4 days ago

repaired via the disk. problem went away.

The control problem is coming from a reset to full nose down trim whenever i slew or switch aircraft or go to a menu etc

still working on this doozie

Sounds like a corrupt saved flight. If you have more than one saved flight,  move your saved flights out of your  Flight Simulator X Files in your My Documents folder, and put them in a temporary folder. Fire up the sim and the default Aircreation flight should start, click the fly now button let it fly for a few seconds, end the flight, shut down the sim, reboot, than try a free flight in your prefered aircraft. If that works than you can reload your saved flights one at a time and delete the one that is broken.  Also you might want to delete The FSX.cfg file (don't forget to back it up) and let the sim write a new one. Hope this helps, good luck!

no dice.

the crash problem was solved by running a repair from the CD.

i still have this odd trim issue wherein the trim goes full nose down after slew mode is engaged.

well i reset all the controls to default and checked the joystick configuration.

for some reason, there was a slider wheel on my throttle set for trim... also there were two buttons on my joystick set for trim.

this was creating some sort of conflict, because when i reset the trim controls - removing the slider from the equation - the problem went away.

thanks for the suggestions.
