I have CFS2 working on Win 7 until I load the Hunters Campaign from Fox4. This program has worked before until I did a reinstall of CFS2-then it(hunters) will not load.
I can load the stock Navy Campaign but when I choose the Hunters and set it up and hit the FlyNow tab it either does nothing or if I keep clicking it it loads up to the runway The cursor just spins -thats it.
I have reinstalled the program and campaign at least 6
times. I just went in and turned all settings(graphics) as low as they would go NO GO.
I run FSX Accelerator,FS9 and CFS3 to the max with no problems
I'm running Win7 dual core with a Nvidia GeForce 9600GT, 3gbs RAM.
Any suggestions or answers

If the standard CFS2 runs in Win7 for you, then Hunters should as well. So this is not a Win7 issue. And there is nothing, and I do mean nothing, in Hunters that would cause the problem you are describing.
The probable cause is that some part of Hunters is not installed properly.
Have you been through the FAQ and Updates pages on the Fox Four site? If not, you need to start there. If you have done your homework there, then you can move on to the next steps.
Do you use SKYPE? Troubleshooting this thing will be very time-consuming via email or posts in the forum. Using SKYPE would make it much simpler and troublesome.

Hey Tango
I think we have e-mailed on this subject and I agree it is not the Hunter campaign but I'm at a loss as to what to do next.
I have followed the instructions in the readme's and even did the manual install(which I do over in FSX all the time).
I would give up but I really like CFS2 and your campaigns......

I understand. You never responded to my last questions.
I am willing to help you isolate and correct the problem.
Do you use SKYPE?
Otherwise, the several dozen questions I need answered may take forever and be beyond your willingness to endure.

Nope I don't have skype.
I just did a reinstall with no downloads added and everything in the program is working.
What would be my next step?
Update
I decided to load a new aircraft the F-9F Panther, as it was working before.
The same problem occured when I tried to fly in free flight as with the Hunter campaigns, gets to the screen with plane flying and hangs with nothing but crosshairs. I then have to go all the way out of CFS2 to fly a stock aircraft and it is OK............

First off, which F9-F Panther?
In general, this would indicate that there was a problem with the aircraft installation.
Send me a copy of the F9-F folder from your CFS2/Aircraft folder. Looking at that will answer the first half-dozen questions.

It is the F9F_Panther_-AlphaSim-.zip. from Simviation
Not sure how to send the folder as it is 15mb, any suggestions or is there a certain file I might look for?
Thanks

A zipped (
ZIP
) copy of the F9F folder in your CFS2/Aircraft folder is what I need. I want to see the folder that is installed in CFS2...the one the sim is trying to load in Free Flight.

OK, I have received a RAR file from you that contains the full download of the F9F.
But that is not what I asked for. I need the F9F folder that you installed in your CFS2/Aircraft folder.
Read this carefully: I don't want the F9F_Panther (AlphaSim).ZIP. I don't want the F9F Panther (AlphaSim) unzipped. But I do want the
Alpha F9F-2 Panther
folder it contains. This is the folder that should be in your Aircraft folder. This folder should contain the subfolders and files shown in the screenie below.

This is to Tango and Dirt,
Hey,
Don't know where you are coming from. I have never said there was anything wrong with Hunters Or Tom(Tango). I do know computers and have built and run my own for years. Win7 has given a few problems and I have been running Hunters On one of my XP computers with no problems.
I thought because the Hunters Campaign was designed by some folks in these forums we might be able to figure out the glitch in my computer.
You will not hear from me again and I will post this in the other forum as well, and when I figure out the problem I will be sure not to post it and will not use anything posted or designed by any of you/ Life's too short as it is with out this problem.

No. You sent me the "F9F_Panther_(AlphaSim)" folder, which is the download, not the aircraft installed in your CFS2/Aircraft folder. I asked for the "ALPHA F9F-2 Panther" folder.
We seem to be having a communication problem.
Since CFS2 is running OK for you in Win7, but none of the third party installs (Hunters or the Alpha Panther) are working, I want to see how you installed the plane. This could tell me what is wrong, but I need to see your installation folder, not the download from Alpha....I have my own copy of that.
This thread is getting a bit long in the tooth, so any continuation should probably be via PM.

Hey all. I'm having the same issue. except one differance. i'm running XP sp3. basically any not stock aircraft will cause this. i'm not sure if its a driver issue. or maybe my graphic card. so here is what i'm running comp wise.
3.06 pent 4
ati xpress 200 (intergraded
)
directx 9 (newest ver)
1.5g ram
i have tried every aircraft from the FoxFour and have the same hangup. also some of the WWI addons that i have tryed are doing it as well. like i stated before any non stock seems to be causing the prob. i have used airman to look for problems with everything coming back OK. so the question is. what next. is it a windows conflict? oh i have that new silverlight installed for netflix and such. nothing else i can think of.
well if anyone one has any ideas please let me know.

I wish I had a definitive answer, but I can only offer these suggestions:
- The issue may be related to security settings in both XP & 7, so you need to check all of those. More specifically, also try right-clicking the CFS2.EXE file in your main CFS2 directory and selecting
Run As Administrator
or the equivalent for your op system.
There are also options to run in the previous OP SYS mode.
- Also, some folks with Nvidia graphics have had problems with the current version of the video drivers, and cured the problem by reverting to an earlier version.
This was actually discovered by folks who started having problems after doing an Nvidia driver update through Windows Update.
I hope this helps some. I do know that there is a simple answer there somewhere (they're all simple...once you find them.
), because there are too many folks with both of these systems running the program with no problems at all with regard to addons.
WHEN
you guys find a solution, please post it here to assist others who may be suffering from the same thing.
If anyone has any suggestions for these fellows please post them.

First Ty for getting back on this.
second i tried rolling back my driver with no luck and i tried the security also with out any luck. I'm wondering if it could be in my sound card (also intergraded i believe) it seems to not want to load. i'll experiment with that and see what happens. the other issue maybe the panels (which aren't loading btw) again i'll tinker with this. is the panel editor for CFS2 and FS2002 still around? i had everything on my other comp and haven't had the time (or money) to recover it all.
let me know if any of this seems plossible of if i'm just spinning my wheels.
again ty

While I'm pondering the rest of the problem, you can pickup the CfgEdit panel utility here:
http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=cfgedit-install.exe&x=21&y=8
I'm afraid that I'm fresh out of ideas on what the root problem might be. Wish I could be of more help.

I would strongly recommend getting NVIDIA drivers directly from the NVIDIA website.
I have seen & had too many problems with video drivers from Microsoft in the past.

ok i have some good news and some bad news. i was able to get the aircraft to work. but i have a problem still. it seems that the panel is the problem. i took out the line
[VIEWS]
view_forward_WINDOWS=%window_title_00%
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=2.6, 0.0, 0.0
from the F86E panel. and saved (note it saved as a word doc-this might be the issue which i'll test later)
then i went and started the sim. now the panel still did not load but the rest of the aircraft functioned fine. so i think its either my graphics card having trouble with the 1024 panels or its in the file format. not sure which but i'll keep looking. it is a conflict involving the panel and my systems setup. i'll post when i have more.

ok removeing that line did nothing but changing the panel name form panel to panel.2 is what disabled it. so its one of 2 things. either my comp can't handle the CFG or it can't handle the 1024x768 .bmps for the panel background.
that is what i have discovered thus far. is there a lower res copy of this panel or maybe another CFG file for it.
if any of the FoxFour crew could give thier input that would be great.
i may just have to make my own or find away for my comp to read the CFG.
oh here is another tidbit. all of my cfg files show up as a microsoft office outlook configureation file. would that do anything?

Hi PL. I can't think why the panels should be giving problems as the default panels are in 1024x768 resolution. You could try aliasing the F-86E panel to one of the default aircraft as an experiment to see if that makes any difference. I can post a Panel.cfg for you to download if you don't know how to do it.
Quote:

then i went and started the sim. now the panel still did not load
The file should be saved under the original name -
Panel.cfg
. Open CFG files in Notepad for editing. (See my comments below.) After editing click the X at top right of the window to exit Notepad saving changes when prompted.

Your CFG files have somehow become associated with Outlook. This will not affect them in any way but I suggest re-associating them with Notepad. This will make everything easier when you wish to edit a CFG file.
Right-click on any CFG file & select Properties.
Where it says 'Opens with:' click the Change button.
Select Notepad from the list of programs & then click OK.
Cliick Apply to exit Properties. That should do it.
Please tell me if this is any help.

ok i realiased the panel. and it loaded fine. so here is the problem than. now what is the solution. i'm going to resize the BMPs and make copies then try the panel again. i'm also going to double check to make certain all of the guages are in my guage folder. its probly the stupid ATI vid card (intergraded) wish it was a nividia. i may have to buy one.
well i'll keep you all posted ty for your help.

I think you will run into problems if you resize the panel BMPs. The gauges will no longer fit. Mike's panels use special gauges & I suspect it will mess everything up.
It's been a long time since I messed around with this stuff but I'll give it some thought. I really can't see how an 8-bit BMP can cause all these problems.

ok i have resized the panels. they appear fine. i used the CFG editor and everything is working. i'll do some work to profect it but this seems to fix my issue so far. though every plane is doing this so i don't know if i want to redo all of the FoxFour panels. though it is a start for my comp atleast.
as to you post Hagar, i'm not realy sure why this is happening. but the resize is a start. i have to do some more work to it and then i can give you what i have. its probly something simple that i have to do to my comp. who know.

i was using the 1024x768-32
i'm thinking that maybe there is an issue with how my guages are read. after resizing the panels bmp. i had to resize the guage like you mentioned. what i noticed was that only 4 of the FoxFour KW gauges showed in the CFG editor. so i'm on a hunt now.
i have since dumped my entire CFS2 and reinstalled. i'm going to take one plane, add it and try to figure out what is wrong. wish i had FS design, oh well.
thats where i'm at at this time please feel free to give you input. need all of the help i can get.

ok i have added 1 plane. (oh note as of this install i'm NOT using the noCDpatch) added the guages and put the plane in my aircraft folder, started CFS2 and everything worked fine. so whats the deal?
was it the patch? IDK. i'm going to add a FoxFour plane and see what happens (it should work fine but i want to check out the guage issues i had before). oh also note that the new plane's panels are 1024x768. go figure.

I told you that Mike's gauges are special. They might not display like other gauges in CfgEdit.

If I knew which plane it is I could compare the panels.

FSDS would be no help unless you can sort this out. From what you're saying the problem is with the panels. The aircraft visual models are working fine.

I realised I was wrong about resizing the BMPs. As an experiment I resized the panel BMPs for the KWCFS2_F86E from 1024x768 to 800x600. Leave the Panel.cfg alone. This is the result.
All works fine but the quality suffers. If Mike sees this he won't be too impressed at me for ruining his beautiful panel but if it fixes your problem that's a risk I'm prepared to take.
Note there are 8 BMPs. You must resize them all.
