..just had a peek at my Weather Station in my back garden...

The atmospheric pressure is presently reading 970 millibars...
..the very lowest reading on the Gauge... Shocked...!

The lowest I have ever seen it!

Pressure = 970
Temp = 9*C.
Humidity = 65%

Does this mean the End of the World is nigh...
..or a Tornado is on its way to Hereford?... Shocked...!

Paul.... Wink... Wink...!

Maybe.... it means your gauge is broken. Roll Eyes

I don't know how to convert inches to millibars but the Weather Channel shows 28.56 inches and falling, 41*F, 87% humidity, and wind from ESE @ 12 mph for Shobdon.
Oh yeah, and it's raining.

For my neck of the woods:
32*F and clear
81% humidity
30.24 inches pressure
wind calm

...
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

...you may be right there, Larry... Cry...!

I've just taken it indoors and partly dismantled it, and the needle doesn't seem to be firmly attached to the bellows/gearing... Sad...!

The trouble is...weather stations are installed outside in all weathers....
..whether we like it, or not!... Wink.... Grin....!

Buggar...

Looks like I need another new Weather Station!.... Cry...!

Paul...weathering the storm.. Cool...!

Latest: Just checked my local weather conditions and re-calibrated the Barometer section of my Weather Station...
Hopefully its "fixed" now...see how it goes... Roll Eyes...!

A useful piece of kit for all the Sim Pilots interested in the Real/Sim weather...
...and Motorcyclists; me, who have to suffer it!... Grin...!

That 28.56 doesn't match the current chart.  No bullseye lows in sight - just the usual north-south swath of liquid sunshine from John O'Groats to the English Channel.  Cheesy.

Quote:
Q: What are the highest and lowest barometric pressures ever recorded?

A: The highest barometric pressure ever recorded on Earth was 32.01 inches, measured in Agata, U.S.S.R., on December 31, 1968. Agata is located in northern Siberia. The weather was clear and very cold at the time, with temperatures between -40° and -58°.

The lowest pressure ever measured was 25.69 inches, set on Oct. 12, 1979, during Typhoon Tip in the western Pacific Ocean. The measurement was based on an instrumental observation made from a reconnaissance aircraft.

An excellent reference for extreme weather records like this is Paul F. Krause's technical report Weather and Climate Extremes, the contents of which I haven't found anywhere online. The report can be ordered through the National Technical Information Service, which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

(Answered by Doyle Rice, USA TODAY’s weather editor, January 24, 2007)

Quote:
Q: What are all the all-time records for high and low barometric pressure in the USA?

A: Using average sea level pressure of 29.92 inches of mercury as a point for comparison, the highest barometric pressure ever recorded in the USA was 31.85 inches in Northway, Alaska, in January 1989. The lowest barometric pressure ever recorded was associated with the landfall of the Labor Day hurricane in Key West, Florida in 1935, which registered a minimum pressure of 26.35 inches of mercury. Both are also records for North America.

It is likely that tornadoes have had lower barometric pressures, but they have not become part of the official record.

Learn more about atmospheric pressure on this USATODAY.com resource page.

Currently a balmy 42°F (6°C)
Humidity:      82 %
Wind Speed:      Calm
Barometer:      29.98"
Dewpoint:      37 °F (3 °C)

Much better then a couple weeks ago on October 26th, sure more then a few of us here dealt with the storms produced that day, forget just how low the pressure actually made it, some reports say pressure was as low as a category 3 hurricane Shocked  The lowest ever recorded in the area.  Spawned quite a few tornadoes, some a little close for comfort.  Low pressure can be a dangerous thing sometimes Undecided
