Hi All,
Ok, I tried for about an hour to get the US_Pilot to work in the FM-2.  I followed all the readme's and other installations and still couldn't get it work.  So, I'll upload the skin package and leave the modifications to someone who knows what they're doing.
Thanks,
Bub

I just figured I would give it a shot.  But, after an hour I saw I wasn't getting anywhere.  Must be missing something.
Anyway,

Thanks Nole,
I appreciate your attention.  There are those out there that do know how.  The problem, is that they're busy with projects of their own and I hate to ask for something this trivial when they're busy doing their own stuff which is more important.  Someome will get around to it when they have time and it will be greatly appreciated.  It's a small detail but will make the FM-2 that much better.

I can't find Mauro's US pilot so I tried MW's RAF pilot instead. He works fine but unfortunately conflicts with the original. Not really worth doing unless someone can find a way to make him invisible.

Sully suggested this solution in an earlier post in the first thread, but I don't even know what a 'mask' is:

Bub, haven't checked it out yet, but if there is a texture for the pilot, you can place a mask over it and he disappears.  Then you can add the Martin Wright or Mario G pilots , just to name a few.  Hope it works.

Is this what is referred to as 'Alpha him out'.

The pilot in the FM-2 doesn't appear to be textured so using a transparent mask won't work. The only way I can think of removing him is by Scasm editing the MDL.

Thanks for trying, Hagar.  Its nice of you to take the time.
I don't know if this means anything, if you run the aircraft through ACM to get the UV_Maps, it shows two pilot textures, us_pilot_1 and us_pilot_2, which are not part of the aircraft download.  I'm not sure what this means.  The only other "texture" is part of the fuselage, wildcat_t, texture.  As Gramps no longer has the source file we may never know.
Thanks again,
Bub

I enjoyed doing it Bub. It's a long time since I messed around with CFS2 so I've forgotten most of what I once knew about it. Smiley

Ah, that would explain it. Those are default textures located in the main CFS2\Texture folder. It might be possible to fix this after all.

Fixed it! Wink

...

Find us_pilot_1.bmp and us_pilot_2.bmp in the CFS2\Texture folder. Take a copy of both files & paste them into the Texture folder of the Wildcat. Then open the copies in DXTBmp & change the Alpha Channel to black. (Alpha > Invert Alpha) 'Save As' in Extended 555-1 format. (CFS2 reads textures in the aircraft Texture folder before the main Texture directory.)

Hagar,
Ok, I got that far.  So now the next step would be to try and install Mauro's us_pilot?  Do you want to take a crack at it?  If so, I can send you the zip with the pilot, and others, if you want.  Let me know and thanks for putting the time in on this.

That's fine Bub. You can have a go at the DP yourself. I found Mauro's British pilot which I suspect is simply the US pilot repainted. Here's my modified DP entries.

First add this extra mount under [HARDPOINTS]

mount.19=-0.03,0.23,-1.01

This is the first payload entry. (He will need adding to each Payload.) Note this is for Mauro's
British Pilot
. Change the name accordingly.

[PAYLOAD.0]
; Payload = Guns Only
mount.19=
BRI_pilot
, 1, 0

Don't forget to delete the CDP file before trying it in CFS2. Good Luck!

Edited:
I found Mauro's US pilot. Here's the correct Payload entry.

[PAYLOAD.0]
; Payload = Guns Only
mount.19=US_pilot, 1, 0

Hagar,
It worked like a charm!  Thank you, you have no idea what this means to me.  Every little tidbit of information I can learn about this is a plus.  Now I just have to package up the skin pack and we're set.  Thanks again for taking the time and putting up with me.

Excellent! Smiley

I could have sent you the updated files but it's much better if you can do it yourself. Cool

Sir,
You are correct.  That feeling of satisfaction in doing it yourself is worth its weight in gold. Smiley

Bob, Sully may have let you down, but under Doug's expert tutledge, you have blossomed into a Techno God of CFS2!   Smiley

Hagar (AKA Grumpy1), the Dean Of CFS2, Mentor Of Many A CFS2 Expert, has returned to the fray.   And we are glad to see him back.  Smiley

TR,
Sully didn't let me down.  I'm sure he's just busy with other things.  And, lets not get carried away, one little step forward doesn't make me a "tecno god".  (Does sound cool, but, nah!)  Also, it was very generous of Hagar.  I learned a few things and found another reason to "hang around" these forums.

OK,  call it Techno God Apprentice.   Roll Eyes

I assure you that my tongue was firmly planted in cheek, with the exception of my comments about Hagar/Grumpy, which are the literal truth.  Wink

The new pilot does look good...I had to tryout the conversion, particularly since I didn't know an Alpha channel from a Beta until this evening.  (As you well know, I hardly know one end of a paint brush from another.)   Huh

Seriously, the forum can be a great place if folks with the answers will make it a point to speak up and help those who want to learn, or just solve a problem.   Now enough of that maudlin stuff....get busy and put your new download package together. Smiley

Sully,
Nothing to feel sorry about.  You got tied up with some things.  (Nothing serious I hope)  I got some generous help and learned a few things.  Win, Win situation in my book.
Take care and have a cold one on me.

Nothing to be sorry about at all. I was glad to step in & take up the challenge. It was just like old times for a while there. Cool

As I said earlier, I've forgotten most of what I once knew about CFS2. I always preferred to explain how it's done rather than do it myself. Bub is a good pupil. Wink
