I thought I would try editing a seaplane.
The aircraft is from my FSX default, the deHavilland Beaver DHC2.
Scenery is FSX default, Friday Harbor, Washington, W33.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers, Mike

Goodly morning... Smiley

Well done Mike...very nice... Smiley

Just a little flying tip if you don't mind.... Smiley

When landing on what we call Glassy Water try not to land in open water with no outside visual clues.
Use the coastline, tree line, buildings anything because when landing on Glassy Water there are very few ways to tell one's height prior to the floats meeting the water.
Water is as hard as cement and many an aviator has done damage to their bugsmasher because of lack of experience and proper training.

There are also techniques for landing in choppy water but again training and experience is a major factor.

There are a few other Swampers and Float/Seaplane Aviators on this Forum who can pass on a lot more knowledge about Water Landings as well... Smiley

Now I will also say if you do a hard landing there are two things that are going to hurt, your butt and your bank account... Grin

Again wonderful work... Wink

Thanks Doug for the good advise. It all makes sense.
I will keep all these tips in mind for future landings of seaplanes.

Are there any other nice areas for seaplane docking and takeoffs?

Cheers, Mike Wink

Hi Mike... Smiley

Get a hold of Larry "Patchz" by PM him here at Simviation, he is a pro at this... Smiley

Now I think it is MoCat's Snow Dog Tours which has a lot of Seaplane and Float Plane Bases but Larry can tell you better as I believe there are several versions, maybe with different names but no sure.

I would hate to steer you wrong on that one... Smiley

Larry can probably give you some advice on Freeware Downloads right here at Simviation for Float Planes and Seaplanes.  (Seaplanes have hulls like a boat and Float Planes have floats or amphibious floats...but you knew that one... Grin)

Lot's of little bugsmasher fields available also for land and ski equipped aircraft available in the Simviation Downloads.

I use FSX and Vista and had many issues so can not wait until I see what happens with this new Microsoft Program called "Flight".

At least you did not call me an expert Doug.  Grin
X = the unknown
spurt = a drip, under pressure

Therefore, expert = an unknown drip, under pressure. Roll Eyes

Mike, as Doug stated, MoCat's has two series of sceneries that give you quite a few water based landing facilities, Snow Dog Tours and Land's End
I think you will be amazed at how many airports are spruced up by Land's End, as well as putting docks, etc. at water based landings. These scenery packages will keep you busy for quite a while.
As to freeware float/seaplane aircraft for FSX, I can't help you there. I know there are some, but I have gravitated toward payware in this area. Now if you are interested in payware, you can't go wrong with Carenado's C185F Bush package, Aerosoft's DHC-2 Beaver, and Aerosoft's PBY Catalina. There is also the Quest Kodiak, FSD's PC-6 Porter, and Flight Replicas' Super Cub. There is Piglet's freeware PC-6 Porter, and from what I have seen, it is as good as or better than FSD's payware version. I had some pretty good freeware water birds in FS9, but since I got FSX I have not looked at freeware much. But I hope this helps you get started.
Cheers,
Larry Smiley

Edited:
I thought Piglet's PC-6 had an amphibian version but it doesn't. However, I just downloaded it and it is better than the FSD payware bird. If you like props, especially STOL, it is a must have. Even the panel is better than FSD's.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
