Goodly morning... Smiley

The old girl is off to church with some other nattering nannies and their hubbies.  Smiley

Yesterday we were down at the river and a young lad was being pulled by a motor boat while strapped into a kite.

We watched for a good fifteen minutes and when he touched down we walked over to look at the kit.

Got to talk to his parents and the young lad is eight years old and has quite a few hours in the air behind the boat and is quite the water skier.
His dad is an aviator and the young lad is going into Air Cadets as he wants to fly gliders.

After a short discussion we found out he dog fights kites and has one kite that lifts him off the ground...awesome... Smiley

And I thought flying an old box kite was something to brag about... Shocked     Roll Eyes     Lips Sealed

There are three different water skiers on the river right now as I type this and I was hoping to catch a glimpse of this young lad in his kite as they said they would be here today.
No luck so far, maybe they are in church as I think they need all the help they can get... Grin

This afternoon we are off to the funeral home, dear friends of our's both passed away within days of each other.
She taught alongside the old girl for years and he was a men's clothing store owner who always wanted to be an aviator but raising five children there just was not the money for flying.
At eighty-six (86) he was just several years older than us. I will remember him as always having one of those Crossword Puzzles in his hand.  His wife told us he even did them in the washroom... Grin

Well a beautiful warm Fall or Autumn Day here, lots going on in the parks and area. Helicopters and aircraft steadily going in and out of the airport but do not see anyone in the circuits.

That is about all happening here in the colony to-day with us folks, have a great day.     Wink

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

It is something to brag about. I could never get a box kite more than six feet off the ground, and then only for an instant. I think they are related to helicopters and not supposed to fly.  Sad

And what is wrong with crosswords in the washroom? Roll Eyes

Goodly morning all... Smiley

I found the longer the tail on any kite the better it flew.

I also found the higher up you get the box kite the better they fly and they are also one of the most fragile kites to transport or store at home.

Never got into crossword puzzles much Larry, sitting in the two holer the old Sears Christmas Wish Catalogue kept me occupied.... Grin

I don't think we all got the full implication of that... you evidently haven't tried since early youth... didn't you tell me you're over six feet tall?

Cool

Yeah, I think I was around nine at the time. We really did not have enough yard and too many trees around. But my Dad, who was six feet tall, was helping me. He did not have much luck either.

Speaking of kites, kite landboarding & kite surfing are very popular where I live. When it's done properly it's like watching aerial ballet. A couple of our local champions jumped over Worthing Pier last year. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1228344/Kite-surfers-leap-pier-death-def...

Good morning all... Smiley

Thanks for the "Link" Doug...interesting... Smiley

Here is a "Link" you all might find interesting...

http://www.gombergkites.com/nkm/hist1.html

Note the Box Kite being raised from a raft by the downed aviators...wonder how many did that???

Now I know what your problem was Larry...you only had a back yard to get your Box Kite into the air.... Shocked

You should have bought an ocean and a raft.... Grin

It is okay Larry...you can tell me to:
Go Fly A Kite Now.... Grin

Mini-mod is quite a good kite flyer, I'm building her a new one at the moment that a friend sent me plans for. If the wind is more than about 15mph she should be able to do VERY long jumps with it Cool
I have to say flying kites with my daughter is great fun, pity winter is upon us and that sort of merriment will now have to wait a few months, but at least the new kite will be ready for spring Smiley

It's usually good to be able to enjoyably satisfy your wife -- even if it's when she tells you to go fly a kite!
