Simviation Forum - Night flying in blackout...?

I want to fly at night in a complete war-time blackout. If I remove to a safe folder all the 'im' textures, will this do what I want? The only light I want to see is moonlight. I'd appreciate any tips/hints about this - I note that the white ground areas are bright white at night, eg.

How about just setting your weather so you're flying in the clouds at night? That should keep it dark outside.

In your main FS2004 folder is a file name stars.dat - it contains data for all the stars and constellations which you see at night.

Try moving that dat file to a temporary location outside of FS. All that should show then is the moon.

Hope that info provides the flying atmosphere you are seeking.

BTW - the stars.dat file can be opened and edited with Notepad.

EDIT added: I just realized that would not remove the lighting of cities - which of course would be dark during a blackout.

Perhaps someone else will have a proper answer for that aspect.

I think you may be referring to LM files rather than IM -

In any case, you may wish to find the enhancement package(s) by Chris Arrington (possibly named something like aeu7.zip) and install them to a temporary folder.

This would show you the names of many of the texture files which he enhanced - so you could find them and try temporarily disabling them.

If memory serves his enhancements were for airports (large and small) only, but it might be a start.

I can just remember my grandmother asking for the blackout curtains to be drawn.

I'm removed as many lm files as I can find & a few Ted Andrews control towers are now black but the world in general is still lit up...... Roll Eyes
