Finally finished the upgrade to the VN_Gato. Framerates are up 300% from the original, which is no longer available online. Hope to have her posted soon here at SimV....she should be a great partner for Sully's new sub tender.

Now to really complicate things...

1. I just uploaded an alternate skin pack for the Gato. It was done by Sully, who swears that submarines never have red-lead bottoms. Grin

The download also includes a tweaked DP file. Wink

2. I also uploaded a 'submerged' version of the Gato that is running at periscope depth. All you will see above the surface is the periscope and the small wake it creates. However, the entire submarine is there and can be damaged/destroyed with standard weapons other than guns. The periscope does show on 'radar'. Cheesy

Both should be available tomorrow....

You really only need the DP file to show for the hull etc.
If you limit the visible model to the Periscope you will save a lot of poly time in fps.

True, and I've done submerged boats like that before (as you well know), but the submerged version is giving me around 45 FPS on my slow machine....and there is seldom more than one submerged sub in frame at once, so it makes little to no difference.

Actually, this is all Sully's fault. The only reason I started messing with this beast is that Sully was getting such lousy FPS with multiple Gato subs nested on his new tender. And as usual I got carried away. Tongue

I inadvertently left the DP on the original Gato upload set to the Japanese nationality after a test. Embarrassed

However, the upload that followed with 'Alternate' Gato files contains a DP that correctly sets the nationality of the sub to US (3 instead of 4 in the MISC section). Tongue
