Well looks like the NHL season has just started..and my avs kicked butt last night and beat the Blackhawks 4-3 in OT. Not really kicking butt but still happy, still a fast young team like last year.

Beat me to the thread start!
I had guard duty so I wasn't near a computer, but I did watch the Red Wings shut out the Ducks. Was amazed to see Datsyuk get into a punch out, he's normally very cool headed.

Were only 3 games in?
Great game though, I think the Avs deserved that win. We were out playing you guys most of the game...but I felt like that was a boring shootout...

My only problem with that Avs-Sharks game was that at the last minute when the Sharks cleared the puck it went into there bench hit there player then went out and dropped straight into middle ice to a Sharks player who then just shot half ice and scored on the empty net and the refs called it a goal. The play was un reviewable which I understand but none of the refs saw that it went out of play then back into play just by hitting the Sharks player on the bench?
The only good thing that came out of that was John-Michael Liles got another assist making it 7 games with an assist or point, beating our franchise record.
Looks like we play the Kings tonight, ill be listening to this one on the radio, instead of going to homecoming.

On ESPN? Serouisly
Going to ESPN for anything related to hockey is like going to best buy for food. ESPN knows barely anything about hockey, and Barry Melrose...worst projections ive seen in my life.
So yes to ESPN the top teams in the NHL are Red Wings...as they have been for about the last 5 years
Ever watched hockey on SportsCenter?
Avs lost Anderson in pregame last night...out indefiantly....

It was actually TSN in Canada who did the power rankings that I saw. And you can't argue with Canadians, this is their sport after all!

True, if anyone were to brag about what ESPN said about there hockey team ill just laugh
Avs played a crazzy game against Calgary last night. Stewart got a hat trick, putting him 2nd in goal leaders. Liles still 1st in assists and tied NHL record with most assist streak since the start of the season but unfortunately that ended last night. On the other hand with our scoring good, our goalie...Peter Budaj...was not very good.
19SA-5 goals.....Please come back Anderson

Finally Budaj steps up, almost got a shutout but 33 saves and 1 GA is good.
Avs-5
Blue Jackets-1
Still dominating right now with our goals...Avs are now currently in first in scoring tied with Chicago. Very happy to hear that but we take a little break until Thursday against Vancouver. Im hoping we can get some good news back about Anderson by Thurs. Im expecting and hoping it will only be a 2 week injury...or 3.
Cant wait for the next Avs-Wings matchup, at the rate both teams are playing it should be a good one.
San Jose is starting to succeed again...unfortunately they actually found out that Niemi wasnt a good goalie and shouldnt be a starter...
I was hoping they would leave him in net for half the year to find out there not in a playoff spot and figure out that he isnt what everyone thinks.

Good news on Anderson, be back in 1-2 weeks they said.
Avs completely dominated the Stars tonight winning 5-0 and shutout for Budaj.

Yeah we beat you when we had a healthy team. Look at our injuries.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/hockey/nhl/teams/colorado-avalanche/injuries.ht...
5 out from concussions. Galiardi just broke his wrist, Anderson still out, and someone who's been playing GREAT for the past 3 games (David Van der Gulik) out with torn MCL. Its getting ridiculous.
It became so bad we had to do a trade with Montreal to get a defensemen...Ryan O’Byrne
He should play tonight against Columbus

Not surprised that they dominated offensively either. To many injures worry me that we dont have a good defense right now and with a backup goalie as our starter...I wasnt expecting to be beat a red hot Detroit team.
Dominated last night though 5-1 against Blue Jackets.
I didnt get to watch the game, as it wasnt televised for me. You have centerice or something?

True, I dont like the overtime loss aspect in records...
I always combine OT losses and regulation losses because either way you lost. Which is something I think the NHL should change, but I do like taht you get a point if you go to OT.

Colorado defiantly dominated tonight. Foote and Wilson are back in the lineup and Anderson back at practice...all good signs.
Colorado is first in the Western Conference for goals for...showing how good these young guys can score and how good of an offense we have to produce. 3rd overall in the NHL for GF.
Colorado-6
St. Louis-3
Very very very good game to watch, and thankfully it was on Versus. Haven't watched a full Avs game in about a month...and another game to be televised for me on Wednesday against the Sharks. We gotta beat them this time, oh how much I hate San Jose. Hopefully Anderson will be in net, not sure yet tho. I know you hate SJ too, so GO AVS!
....Also as you know about my obsession with Duchene
, got to see his first NHL fight. Proud of him, pretty good fight for Duchene and for a first fight? Great job.

St. Louis is easy
Avs delivered a great finish game, and came back to beat the Sharks. I think teams underestimate our offense, seems the only team that has shut us down in awhile is your wings...
Which you should be proud of considering that we are still 2nd in goals scored in the NHL, behind the Caps.
I'm starting to think the Avs are one of the best 3rd period teams in the NHL. They defiantly kick ass in 3rd periods and usually wake up late to games. Most 3rd periods we out shoot our opponents including that recent game against Detroit.
Thankfully I was the one who could talk smack at school today

I don't think that matters considering we have played the fewest amount of games in the conference...and we are number 1.
Score all the goals you want, it only matters if you score more than the other team

Well just saying, we've got a good offense going right now, and most likely for a team that is leading the western conference in goals will have a winning record, which we do. Does it make us the best team? Defiantly not, Vancouver, Wings, and Kings are all better than the Avs in my mind right now.

Wings were down 2-0 near the end of 2nd, then scored one. 3rd period they score two more and take the lead, then Min scores one and takes us to overtime, we dominate overtime, barely miss 7 goals, then Min does a line change and scores with 45 secs left...dammit. We still got our point though, still in first haha.

Avs looking good with Anderson
Bettter watch out, we just took a tie with Vancouver for first place (in our division of course)
Offense is STILL impressing me
Duchene 3 point night..which defiantly made it even better.
Avs-5
Rangers-1
Budaj will take the net tomorrow night against Dallas. Avs are probably on the plane to Dallas as we speak.
DAMN wings..I dont want to see Minnesota or Vancouver winning...

Yeah Minnesota and Vancouver are 2 of the only 5 teams to beat us so far. We still got our OT point, and LA lost tonight to Buffalo so that extends our lead in the Western Conf

Just realized the only two people on here who talk hockey with me like the two teams ill hate the most this year. Detroit (obviously) and Vancouver (because they will be hard to beat in the division)....its a very good thing we don't have Sharks fans here...I might use to profanity.

It's a damn good thing there's no Sharks fans in here, I would probably lose my moderator status
Vancouver I don't mind so much since they are Canadian, I always respect a Canadian team, as long as the Wings beat them
I didn't realize until crossfire said something that we are the only two hockey heads in here. I know Cory (willitrun) is a big Flyers fan but he doesn't hang out here.

Kevin Porter...ever heard of him? Got him from Phoenix last year along with the Mueller and Wolski trade. Well he's got the Avalanche the last 3 game winners. Avs continue to win with a 4 game win streak as we beat Dallas in Shootout thanks to Porter. Although it wont count as a goal he's had the last 3 game winners. Budaj played a good game, lots of great saves in the highlight reel. I didn't get to listen or watch this game as my ice hockey preseason started tonight.
We blew a 3-0 lead which wasn't very good. Unlike the last few games, we started really good in this game then fell apart as it went on. I like Budaj in net, but feel MUCH more comfortable with Anderson in net. Avs just took solid first place of the Northwest Conference...20 games 25 points...4 game win streak.
I'm having a fun time watching my Avs.

Calgary dominated the Wings tonight, 3-1 lead, then 4-2 lead, then 4-3 lead...then after knocking the puck out of the zone with 7 seconds left, Datsyuk grabs the puck, drives it in, pass to Zetterburg, 3 seconds left in regulation...SCOOOOOOOOORRRREEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then we win in OT.

In hockey, age means experience. Remember hockey is a lot like chess, it's more than just brute strength even though it looks like they are all just slamming into each other and trying to be the harder hitter. They need to exercise patience and set up the play. Plus hockey players play so much for so long that they stay in great shape, unlike NFL.
You know this man, you play hockey. Younger teams have their hotshot players (Crosby...) but if you look at NHL stats, older teams are usually more successful over all.

Lids made Kipp look like a Rookie... That was an amazing game.
And if theres anyone who can prove age isnt a factor, its Lidstrom at 41 and still one of the best D-men in the league.

So did we. Anderson and Foote injured AGAIN!
Also a crap 4th goal by Vancouver last night as Budaj got hit it the mask with a stick as one of the players was trying to hit the puck out of the air. In the goal review they couldn't call it a penalty because there was no penalty on the ice before the goal and there was no blood (because he has a goalie mask) so it was a good goal. Not like it would've made us win but it would a changed a lot and who knows what would've happen.
Canucks win 4-2.
Avs go to Edmonton tonight. There can't be any excuses as to why we shouldn't beat this team.

Horrible. Just horrible. 30 seconds left..by one of a players I hate to score the game winning goal, while im yelling at John Michael Liles because he went to go pickup his stick.
And 2 goals within the first 2 minutes. We always do that, always. 5 games ago we had 2 straight games where we let a goal in within the first minute.
Very very very disappointed right now, and angry.

Wish I lived in Colorado.
Avs have a cyber monday deal--5 tickets and a signed puck by either Duchene, Liles, or Stewart for $85....
But that might be because we get no fans for some reason. Last year when we were 1st place in the NHL we had under 10,000 fans at one game.
Avs play the Thrashers tomorrow at home. Stewart out with a broken hand for fighting.
But on the bright side, I did get NHL 11 on bestbuy.com for $35!

Thankfully ive already been playing it for a little while because my step brother has it. But had no access to anything online because you have to have the pass. So im really excited about the online!
but nothing new with the game features, ive been playing it for 2 months.
Red Wings and Sharks morning ice cancelled. Some worried about the ice conditions...
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=544960&cmpid=rss-News%20in%20English
Avs have had 2 trades in 2 days.
Got rid of AHL defensemen: Colby Cohen
For Boston's defensemen: Matt Hunwick
Avs trade today, the team is more excited about...although I have 2 different thoughts about...
Avs trade: Scott Hannan
Avs get Washington's: Tomas Fleischmann
Apparently we've had alot of defensemen and everyone knew a trade was coming. I liked Hannan, although he doesnt really do us any good with getting any points. Last 2 years under 20 points so it wouldn't effect us much, but he's a good defensive defensemen. As for getting Tomas Fleischmann, I think it'll be a good fit with our team. Not doing great with Washington but getting 51 points in 68 games last year, and going to a team that is 1st in the NHL for average goals a game might help. I guess Washington has tried to put him at Center this year which is why he isnt playing as good, hopefully he'll be put at LW.
As for tonights games, Hunwick will start and Fleischmann will not but he will be there watching. He had some travel delays and they dont want him to be playing from all the traveling and arriving late.
Avs vs. Thrashers tonight. Budaj in net, still no Anderson.
Oh and for Stewart...bad news, he'll be back 4-6 weeks from his broken hand.
Sincerely, Tyler

If I had to pick a team to be the best in the NHL it would have to be the Flyers.
Best Western Conference team would have to be the Wings in my mind. As much as I hate to say it, but hell at least the Sharks suck
Avs lost last night, after starting great...just fell apart and lost again in OT. Last two games have been OT losses.
Playing Tampa Bay right now

Bad game for the Avs, as they lost 5-6. I didnt watch but I heard our defense was playing bad and looking at the highlights didnt look like we were playing well. I do think if Anderson was in net we would have won...but still played a bad game...
Havent been paying much attention, cause if been playing constant hockey since friday...and my last game of the whole weekend, I dislocate me knee.

Tonight's game is not looking good for the Wings. Sharks are up 4-2 after 2 periods, scoring 2 goals in 8 seconds early in the period, need them to wake up for the third or I am going to get a hard time at work tomorrow.

Well Avs started playing hockey after all. 3 game win streak. Some close games and some high scoring ones.
Quincey injured and Hejduk..Hejduk's injury shouldnt be long but T.J. Galiardi was cleared to play again after being out for almost 2 months.
We play Chicago again tonight...in Chicago.
Duchene and Fleishmann got something going. Duchene 30 games 30 points. Liking it
.......what about Tavares? oh he only has 14 points.

Wow what a day for Nick Lidstrom (Wings Captain)
This morning he is on front page of ESPN for an article about how he is the highest scoring defense man in the NHL, and then in tonight's game he gets his first ever hat trick.

Of course Red Wings are on the front of ESPN. The only 3 NHL teams ive ever witnessed on the front of ESPN were......can you you guess?....
Detroit...Pittsburg...Washington!
Of course.
NHL had 4 had tricks last night. One of them included Fleischmann
Im some what suprised that Lidstrom has never had a had trick..but I guess I can see how because he's defensemen but still, for some reason when you hear the name you'd just assume that he's such a great player that he would.

While your Wings played a bad game tonight, my Avs played a see-saw game of scoring back and forrth. and of course, another high scoring game (as the avs are 1st in goals per game) we win 6-5 in OT....thanks too...
MATT DUCHENE
The Avs leading pointman and scorer.
Avs take 1st place in Northwest Division and on a 5 game win streak. 2nd in the West. Watch out Detroit.

Avs Wings tonight. 2-2. Ozzy has been putting on a show in the net. The Wings fans in Colorado were loud enough to start chanting Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy. In Colorado. How does that make you feel LOL...you have as many Wings fans as Avs fans in the arena.

Avs put up a fight, took us to overtime, but Kronwall one timed it in to get Ozzy his 400th win! Ironic that he would get his 400th in Colorado against our biggest rival. Great game.

I wouldn't be surprised they're were a lot of wings fans there tonight if I were you because we do have one of the worst attendance in the NHL. Embarrising, since our team is pretty good and it is Colorado...where you think they'd like hockey. I did hear lots of cheers when the Red Wings scored on the radio almost like it was a home game for them.
There's no doubt in my mind that we outplayed the Wings. I think our speed and your guys back to back games made us have the advantage but in the end you guy got 2 points and we got 1. Another shitty goaltending performance. Sorry for the language but our offense is doing amazing things for us right now and so is our defense, at least nothing to blame all of it on them and we only sit 5th in the Western Conference, after being 1st in the NHL in goals.
Anderson and Budaj really need to start stepping up.

Yeah you got us, but we tried to come back, we did pretty good for missing 3 starters and using a 3rd string goalie.

The flyers did well today and Bob would have had a shutout if it weren't for Coburn frakking it up at an inopportune time.
Flyers in first place with 69 points.

Awesome game tonight, Wings beat the Devils 3-1, but it was neck and neck until the end of the third

I would say its embarrassing to be neck and neck with the Devils because of how horrible they are but the Avs havent played a good hockey game in probably a month. Lost again..I blame the goaltenders. All we do is switch up Budaj and Anderson every game! Someone needs to step up and be our starter!
On the other hand tho Stastny will be playing in the All Star Game. Making it 3 Avs players...Stastny, Duchene, and Shattenkirk.
Sincerely, Tyler

Really fun all star game if any of you watched.
Duchene and Stastny both scored, to bad Duchene could score on the only penalty shot in all star game history.

Haven't been in here much lately, but I did watch all of the all star weekend, the draft, the skills contest, and of course the game. What a fun weekend, good job team Lidstrom! It's a shame Duchene missed the first ever all star penalty shot, typical Avalanche
And tonight, Wings played the Senators and beat them 7-5 with Franzen scoring 5 goals!!!

Embarrassing describes how the Wings are playing these days. It has been 5 periods since we last scored a goal. 3rd period against the Preds and it's 2-0 Nashville after getting shut out last night by the Jackets (Shut up Brett)

Avs are playing like crap too. And we were already playing like crap before the all star break too.
Avs sign Forsberg for the remainder of the season. I guess they think he will fix our problems.

All these injuries, trades, and poor coaching make me angry and dissapointed with the avs staff. Threw away a good young team. There were so many trades how do they expect all these new players to get the chemistry of the Avs? and then injured players on top of that make it so every month we pretty much have a different lineup.

Stanley Cup playoffs start April 13!!
Red Wings and Sharks are in a neck to neck race for second place. Sharks tied us for it, then took second place for a day, then the Wings won tonight and took second place back. Should be an exciting finish to the regular season.

Wings clinch the division for the 9th time in ten years. No chance at the conference (thanks Nucks) so bring on the playoffs!!! 20th year in a row in the playoffs for the Wings. Would be epic if we took the cup!

LET'S GO BLUE GREEN!!!
However, in the last two straight post-seasons, Canucks won game 1 over us Blackhawks.... However we went on to win 4 of the next 5 to take the series in 6 games on both occasions....
I'd love to say im confident of a similar result again, I'm kind of praying we've made a good enough habit of so far that we can somehow repeat the feat...
Afterall we are the defending champions (although thats not saying scrap this season!)
