Two of my downloaded aircraft (B-47E and F-86D), which had previously worked perfectly, have suddenly failed to load with the message 'creation failed - check if sound file is available'.      In both cases, the sound file is installed.     Any comments/suggestions?

After checking the sound folder, and I thought it looked good, I'd rename the sound folder and swap in another sound folder and test it.  If it still didn't work, I'd try deleting and reinstalling the entire add-on from the original .ZIP file. (If I had additional textues, I'd save the aircraft.cfg to my desktop so I could re-edit the original .cfg with the added fltsim.XX entries).

It would help to know which aircraft you're talking about. Any chance of a link to the pages the files are posted on?

My first thought is that this is caused by a missing module named GaugeSound.dll. Check that you have this file & that it's installed to your FS9 root directory, NOT FS9\Modules.

Thank you for replies.       I have tried different sound files with the same result.        I can't give a reference to pages - files downloaded some time ago - but the B-47E is by Glenn Duncan and the F-86D by David Wooster.     If I keep on getting this problem, I'll do a 'remove and reload'.    Odd though, that the problem occurs in two different aircraft which previously worked perfectly well.

I found both aircraft & checked them out. Before doing anything please check your FS9 root directory folder for a file named GaugeSound.dll. If it's missing you found the cause of the problem. The file is included in the B-47E download (b47e_wgd.zip) if you need it.

Thank you, Hagar.     Yes, the gauge sound.dll file is in my FS9 root directory

That is an error message from Gaugesound.dll and indicates that a specific .wav file is missing or corrupted.

Note that the .wav files that are invoked via Gaugesound.dll can actually be darn near anywhere, and not necessarily in the a/c's ..\sound folder!

Also look in the sim's ..\Sound folder for a subfolder that might relate to the a/c in question.
