Hey all.

Im currently using a Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop with the below specs and am trying to use a second monitor. I have managed to get the second monitor to display the same as the laptop one, however I am unsure as to how to set it to work as two separate displays so that I can jump between the two.

If it is possible on my system does anyone know how i could go about this?

Specs
Wistron 303C Motherboard
AMD Turion Dual Core X2 RM-72, 2.1GHz
4gb DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G
Running on Vista

Thanks for any help.

For running dual Monitors I guess you would need a Desktop/Tower Computer, with a plug-in Graphics card supporting Dual Monitors.

My nVidia 7800 GS 256 MB Graphics Card, in a Desktop Computer, supports Dual Monitors, with 2-off Video Sockets, and drivers to suit.

It would be nice to know, how you got it to work. Did you use a video output with software? I couldn't figure out how to do that with my old laptop.

No i didnt, it was suprisingly simple. Once i had plugged the monitor into the side of the laptop it took a minute but eventually opened up showing the same as the laptop monitor was. So i had two monitors showing exactly the same thing.
I then went through the control panel to where you change the screen resolution and the image of the screen that you would normally see showed two screens.
...
I selected both of the check boxes as shown. Dragged the screens into the correct places in relation to where they are on my desk.
...
I then highlighted screen 2, checked the extend the desktop option. I then increased the screen resolution to full (i'm not sure why this had any effect but it suddenly made it work!)

I hope this helps you!

Cheers

Well, there you go...

I always thought that on "Laptops" you only had access to the screen which is part of the lift-up lid?....

...ie: ...the whole Laptop was self-contained... Roll Eyes..!

A quick 'Phone call to my lovely Daughter-in Law just now, confirmed that they are fitted with an extra "D" Socket on the side, that you can plug a separate Monitor or Television screen into the side of the Laptop... Shocked...!

..and with suitable drivers you can run two separate screens, (the same as I do my Desktop Computer)... Smiley...!

I learn something new every day!... Kiss...!

Paul...Cross-eyed, with two screens... Grin...!

Nice work Mass

I managed the same feat a couple of months ago on my laptop. I needed a portable flight simulator as I was getting sent away for work to a ship in the Canadian Arctic. I managed to set up my laptop with FS9 and a 22" monitor and it ran great. I must say the second monitor is great for flight simming.

Peace
Mark

Yeah, that helps a lot.  'Course, I'd need another monitor, but still good to know and simple enough in case I ever decide to go that way at home.

I use two monitors during tax season work, very helpful, my boss sets it up.  Now if he'd just pay me twice the salary, I'd be all set up too.
