Hello SimV,

I have an aircraft (for FS9 and FSX) that has Bitmap files for the textures, rather than DDS. Is it possible to make and use a 'Bump' with these files??? I have made a bumpmap from the rivets/panels, although making the alpha eludes me at the moment. When I create the 'normal map' with the Nvidia plug-in for Photoshop, I do not get an alpha channel, and I see no way of making one.

I looked at some posts about making Bumpmaps, and I can't see where I am going wrong, other than the fact that it may not be possible to do what I want to do.

Any help is very welcome., Thanks.

First of all, if you're using FSX, you can convert the bitmaps to .DDS files and they should will work fine.
Second, the alpha is embedded in the .DDS file.
Never used bump maps, so I'll not be of much help on the other issues. Smiley

FS 9 does not support bumpmaps or .DDS

Extended Bitmaps only

Thanks for the replys.

I use the plane in FSX, but it has the bitmap files (as FS9) does. I was trying to add a bumpmap file (DDS) into the texture folder but it does not make it onto the plane in FSX.

Just wondering if it was possible?? Maybe i'll change all the textures to DDS and see if that makes any difference. As far as i can tell, im creating the bummaps correctly, just they are not showing up. Im not sure if this is something that needs to done at the plane design stage??

It needs to be an FS.X native aeroplane with the appropriate coding complied into the model Wink

It is FS9.....must be as it works in FS.9 so there is nothing you can do about it. Sad

I only wasted a couple of hours  Angry but it was fun all the same.
