Certainly will be.

Also, Southwest confirmed (on their FAQs page) that they will be operating AirTran's B717s, and gradually applying their livery to them.  Wink

SY = Sun Country apparently....

I think they wanted to deal with a bigger airline that has less routes that overlap Southwest's existing structure.

I wonder what they are going to do with the international destinations? It seems like Southwest avoids going international.

Well think about it.  You would get -700's and -800's while avoiding having to phase out the 717, which I don't think made the profits for airtran that southwest is looking for.  Plus you need to deal with training existing pilots in the 717.  Also with sun country you avoid the hell hole of Atlanta.

Having a different aircraft type in the fleet isn't the end of the world....most of the time. Grin

If I may quote SWA's website                    Quote:
Q: This is a deviation from your single-fleet strategy. Will that impact efficiency?

A: With a fleet of 86 Boeing 717s, the fleet is large enough to schedule efficiently. We are excited about the possibilities of scheduling a slightly smaller gauge aircraft. We believe the 717 will allow us to better match seasonal demand without necessarily changing frequency in a market. In addition, the 717 will allow us to consider markets and cities that historically have been considered too small for Southwest service.

Although they probably won't keep them forever, I could see them keeping the 717s for 5-7 years.

Don't forget that AirTran already has enough pilots and FAs trained for the 717 to operate their fleet efficiently.

Remember, fleet commonality isn't the only thing airlines look at in a merger or buyout.

I know that airtran already has pilots for the 717 I'm just wondering   If they will keep the 717 on the same roots or will they cross utilize them on some of wn smaller routes.  I can see it causing conflict on some places. Tongue

Well they did say that with the 717, it will allow them to fly to smaller places they werent able to before...so I could see them switching some routes up...

but i'd have to agree with you on what you said about Atlanta, flew AirTran last week to get to Annapolis and had to fly to Atlanta first and it was defiantly not my favorite airport.
