Late repy.. I believe that to be correct Paul. Either liscenced or liscence applied for. We also have trip permits in On. So you can get to a vehicle inspection place.
It is possible to ride a motorcycle on the highway without front and rear lights, providing it is not ridden during the hours of darkness. Or direction indicators, meaning that hand signals can be used instead (I use a combination of both for added information/safety).
If any of the above accessories are fitted to the machine then they must be in full working order to pass the Test.
But every Bike
must
carry a rear mounted Licence Plate of regulation type, size, and colour.
Straight-through, After-Market Competition Silencers (Mufflers), are generally illegal because of noise (not for road use), but mostly ignored by the Test Centres, and Police now, providing the noise is not excessive (more important things to do...catching villains!).
I reckon my slightly
noisy (illegal) Competition Silencer keeps me safe...

The powers that be, in Ontario are cracking down on the modified pipes VIA decibel meters. We have a vehicle saftey certificate we must have when we apply for liscence. Everything has to be in working order, including lighting.
Given enough time, the legislators around here will be demanding seatbelts on motorbikes..
Flying with twins is a lot of fun..

Same over here, Steve.
Every 12 Months we have to take our Bikes to an approved Ministry of Transport Test Centre for a complete examination of the Bike, and supply a Test Certificate, to allow us to re-licence it for another 12 Month period.
At one time, Competition Exhaust Silencers would result in a failure, but nowadays everyone and his dog replaces the original manufacturers Silencer with an after-market one, (sometimes cheaper, as well!), so the authorities generally accept them, (put-up with them), without too much complaint....
...!
Every Motorcycle gathering has all the bikes showing after-market Silencers, and the Police take no notice now, (they have given up!), unless something is seriously amiss!
(...just have to be a little bit careful with "Insurance",...the machine has been "modified")...
