Every now and then when playing FSX my monitor will freeze into a blue sometimes green blocky screen, as in the entire screen turns that color, bit is blocky like.

Other games like MWF2, Bad Company 2, etc do not do this, only FSX.
Is it a sign of possible over heating?

The card is Radeon 4830 HD with stock cooler on it,
Room temps are 78-83.F
System temp during gaming is around 40-45 C

EDIT- Also, have latest drivers,

That sounds a little familiar... I hope your problem isn't the same as the one I had...

So the computer freezes entirely when this happens right? does restarting fix the problem? do you see these artifacts outside FS?

Just to check, do these artifacts resemble aliens from space invaders?  Roll Eyes

If so, you might have the same problem I did.

Hopefully that's not the case... if you could post a screenshot, or if that's impossible maybe a picture of the screen when the problem occurs, it would be very helpful.

Cheers

Thanks for the help so far, having an impossible time recreating it. Had it going one time, but had no batteries for my camera.
And it is only FSX, it happened before I got Win7 (XP 32 bit), and after Win7 64 bit. And it happens when browsing the web with FSX open too.

I looked at about how hot my GPU is getting with FSX and it looks like 50ish C (111ishF)
So I think FSX is demanding to much from my gpu for some reason, because my cpu is staying at 37-45C.

So I think it is time for an aftermarket cooler for my graphics card
