Something I haven't understood yet is when you guys refer to slewing. I think I am familiar with what slewing is in principal. Isn't slewing those S-turns that the space shuttle uses to kill velocity in order to come around to land on the runway? Now if I'm right about that, what is so bad/wrong about people doing it? I want to ask because I did see a few posts in the multiplayer forum talking about people slewing should be shot or something in that vein. Can someone explain this to me please?

Slewing is purely something found in the realm of virtual flight, and has no application or similar concept in the real world. It's basically a fast, repositioning shortcut that some people will use rather than going through the menu process.

Press "Y" on your keyboard, and use the "A,S,D, Q, and Z keys (among others)" to reposition your plane in an environment, without taking the time to actually "fly" there.



One last thing.......

People must enjoy hearing this or something: "There is no such thing as a stupid question!" This is especially true of a technical topic such as aviation.

Ok, I just had to ask because I had that message pop up in the chat box when I landed at one of the airports on the hoplist. Basically I had landed and then changed planes from a DC3 to a Beechcraft Baron when it popped up that I either slew or jumped to the airport instead of flying...which I did, (fly that is). Eventually it registered the landing but it just confused me after hearing the scorn directed at those who dared to do it. But I feel better now that I know what it is.

Not true... "slew" is a rarely-used verb used to describe swerving. Hence the space shuttle S-turn reference. The flight-sim term derives from the use of this term in the real world.  Wink

Just an aside, but "slew" is also a word popular in biblical films of the 40's and 50's as in: "We slew the Saracens."
