Yep....

It gave me 3 free Trojans in the download... Angry...

I removed them with AVG and un-installed "C Cleaner", pronto!... Wink... Wink...

Where did you download it from? I've used CCleaner for a long time. I never had a problem with trojans. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

..goodness knows?... Roll Eyes...!

I do the usual Google search for C Cleaner, pick one and download and install it, and run it...

After a while I detected that the computer seemed to be slowing down generally....did an AVG check..as I do, regularly. It came back with the report of 3 Trojans associated with the C Cleaner File, and quarantined them.

Rather than take any more risks by running C Cleaner, I uninstalled it, and use Easy Clean and Registry Mechanic instead..(Does a similar job).

Paul.

BTW: Did an overnight Memory check, all OK, but I'm still getting the "freezing", at intervals, a bit annoying!... Huh...!

The trojans were most likely from a different source & nothing to do with CCleaner. These things have a nasty habit of attaching themselves to EXE files. At least you found them before they did any harm. I always try to download utilities from the developers' own website.

I had a similar problem when I first got this PC. Took it back to the shop several times & they replaced almost everything with no luck. It was indeed most frustrating. These intermittent problems are always the most difficult to trace. In the end I fixed it myself. I forget what did the trick now but it might well have been CCleaner.

I recently discovered that AVG was using a lot of resources & slowing everything down. Sometimes the PC would lock up for no apparent reason. After reading several recommendations on this forum I decided to uninstall it & try Avira. This seems to have fixed the problem so far. Get the AntiVir Free Version. http://www.free-av.com/en/trialpay_download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antiv...

At the mo' I've got both AVG and Avira in my Tool Bar.
I generally use Avira for a regular quick check, and AVG for the full scan.
I'll try disabling AVG for a while and see what 'appens... Wink...
...(I will probably get another 3 Trojans, then!).... Shocked... Wink...LOL..!

Paul... Cool...!

I'll have another go with C Cleaner, from the original source.

If you're running both at the same time I suspect that might be causing a conflict. Please try one or the other. Avira seems to be using far less resources than AVG on my system.

If you've had the auto updater for AVG turned on,
the latest versions have become seriously resource heavy,
with almost a dozen process running.
AVG is no longer the cool streamlined must have app that it once was.

I had similar hangups, and switched to MSSE,
which only has 2-3 process running max,
and have not had the issue since.
Before the switch, I had 41 process running,
now I have 29.
It makes a big difference.

You may or may not meet with equally fantastic results as I have,
but I thought I would mention that,
as I did some rather extensive searching & reading on the AV subject to cure my problem with it.

You'd be much better off with just running Avira.

Also, having multiple AV programs running at once,
will lock your system up if they both happen to scan the same file at once.

If you insist on having them both running,
turn the real time protection feature off on one of them.  Wink

It also makes a good deal of sense to turn them all off while flying,
as most AV programs are scanning running programs & files on your system,
even when you're not online.

Upgrading to SP3 would probably also be a good idea,
it's been quite a few years since it's release,
and they appear to have worked out all the bugs for it.

Good luck, making the leap is the hardest part.  Wink

You could be right there, Doug... Wink...!

Although I have automatic downloads, etc turned off, It could be that the Virus scanners jump into action every now and again for a quick check, and freeze my Computer (no Mouse or Keyboard).
Sometimes, if I leave everything alone for 10 minutes or so, the program sometimes carries on from where it left off, as though something in the background had interrupted it for a while!
Peculiar and peculiar-ar.... Wink...!

Thanks for the confirmation Shane. I forgot about that latest AVG update which appears to be the cause of a lot of these problems. Shame they had to go & spoil a handy little application.

I'm certain of it Paul. Please disable AVG & tell me if that fixed your problem.

I agree that AVG sucks ,I agree that 2 anti virus is lethal for the system ,But IMHO that freezing problem smells a lot more like a hardware issue

OOoooo, never have more than one antivirus program with realtime protection/scanning running at a time. Bad things can happen.

Well....

I thought, maybe I've cured the problem by getting rid of AVG...
Fired up my FS 2004, Filed an ILS flight plan from Byron to Monterrey Peninsular...
Part way, the sound decided to perform its usual antics!
The dreaded, continuous Audio Loop necessitating a computer reset, (and loss of the flight)... Angry...!
Swapped the sound card for another one, still having occasional sound faults; eg U-Tube music, etc!
Like Alex said, it has to be a Hardware fault...somewhere!
Memory OK.
(Processor running cool, all fans working).
Its bleedin' annoying, 'cos I never know when the fault is going to show up!...Computer freeze/stuttering Audio.... Sad...!
Hmmmmm..... Angry....!

Work in progress...

Paul....must keep smiling!... Roll Eyes...!

Pablo, for experience I have learn that the only way to test a RAM memory its by pluging another one OR if you have two devices Unplug one and if it fails put it back and unplug the other ,I don't know what memory you have ,but this is a common issue in ddr400 and ddr333

Also No matter what PSU you have its all about electronic components and they all fails sometimes  ,I have seen telmakes ,Nvidias ,corsairs whatever they fail ,just test by having another PSU a BORROWED ONE ,I do this before spending money on it

Will fiddle with the Memory, Alex...
I have 2X 1GB in Dual connection, plus an additional 256KB, making 2.3 GB in total.
I'll try them individually.

Another strange occurrence, is my simple Zoom ADSL wired, USB modem, (NO Router!) regularly disconnects itself from the Phone line.
I have to unplug the USB plug from the Modem, re-insert it, wait for the Modem to re-boot, then redial the Broadband connection number again!
This is a disaster whilst in the middle of an on-line Multiplayer flight!

Motherboard problems?

Paul...If it aint one thing...its sumfin' else!... Cry... Wink... Grin...!

I can assure you and bet That's not a motherboard problems Paul...we were talking about freezing while a game was running ..correct? if you have a deficiency in that PSU the first to notice will be the CPU (Frozen)  and the Video card ,also other hardware devices could be affected like the LAN area (sorry I did not understand if you have Dial Up or broadband )
also tell me do you have ddr3 ddr2 or ddr (400/333)???
