When the PC is started I get "hal.dll is missing". Please install hal.dll.

I put it in another PC that boots OK & the faulty HD shows in Bios but in Win.Explorer.

How can I install hal.dll ? ...........nick

Hi Nick, and welcome to SimV! Wink

Do you have more than one hard drive on that machine? The reason I ask is that sometimes this kind of error can occur if you've made changes to (by accident or design) the boot order of the system.

Try this, while booting the machine, hit F8 to bring up the Windows boot menu, and select " Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) " and see if that corrects the problem.

Using XP.

No matter what I press all I get is black screen asking to install hal.dll.

With this HD pigy backed on another PC both HDs show on Bios but the faulty one does not show on Win Explorer.

PS. if I remember OK this happened after installing Ubuntu 8.10 as well hoping to dual but as I do on my other PC.

But as I cannot see the faulty HD I can neither install hal.dll, unistall Ubuntu or change boot.ini.

My paragon recover CD corrects boot.ini but nothing happens. Also this Cd cannot see the HD when I try its HD Manager.        .........nick

Have you tried making a boot disk or recovery disk?

I only have the above said  "Paragon recover CD", also tried UBDC, Barte & some Dos one with no succes.

The XP & Barte CDs after the "Setup is inspecting PC's hardware config" stop, hung.
