I have REX2 installed (Real Environment 2) in my FS2004. I am installing a brand new FS2004 due to problems I have with the current installed version. My Q is: Do I need to uninstall REX and other programs (such as Ultimate Terrain) before installing the new version? Can I somehow transfer freeware aircraft?  Any guidance will be much appreciated.

You would be advised to uninstall any programs such as Rex.
To save you a lot of trouble with re-installing aircraft, just copy the Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft, Effects, Gauges and Sound files to somewhere safe, then once you've installed the program copy them in and over the existing files on the new install, hey presto all your planes and their bits should be there Wink

Hi OZZIE:  I need a little help solvig a mystery. I uninstalled my old FS2004 then installed a new FS2004 right out of the box. Both the uninstall and the new install were confirmed. Yet - and this is what's puzzling me -- I get the old version. I know this because an error window and addons in the old version show up on what I thought was a game from a  brand new, uncorrupted disc.  I am at a loss to know what to do. I know very little about computers. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.  Incidentally, I am on Windows 7 with a Dell XPS computer.

Sorry to be such a bother, but the link to Simviation page that explains how to replace a FS2004 disc with a new disc doesn't work. Searching  the http doesn't work. Google can't locate it. The Simviation search engine can't locate it. Can anyone tell me wehere I can locate this info? At my wit's end.   Huh  Thanks.

Denis,

Un-installing FS9 will not remove any files that are not part of the original installation.

If you did not delete all folders remaining after the un-install, and you re-installed back to the same location, those folders will still be there.

In other words, say you have an addon aircraft installed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\addon plane.

When you un-install FS9 it will remove the default planes from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft, and not touch addon plane.

So you would still have C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\addon plane.

If you re-install FS9 to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9, the addon plane will show up in your new install, because it never actually left.

Hope this helps clear things up.

cheers,
Joe
