How did we miss the 45th anniversary release of the greatest rock and roll song ever?

Like A Rolling Stone

"Like a Rolling Stone" is a 1965 rock song by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan ...

According to Shaun Considine, release coordinator for Columbia Records in 1965, "Like a Rolling Stone" was first relegated to the "graveyard of canceled releases" because of concerns from the sales and marketing departments over its unprecedented six-minute length and "raucous" rock sound ...

The song had a huge impact on Bruce Springsteen, who was 15 years old when he first heard it ...

Dylan's contemporaries in 1965 were both startled and challenged by the single. Paul McCartney remembered going around to John Lennon's house in Weybridge  to hear the song. According to McCartney, "It seemed to go on and on forever. It was just beautiful ... He showed all of us that it was possible to go a little further." ...

You had to be there.  I wasn't, being about 8 years old.

"Like A Rolling Stone" is often considered to be the greatest rock and roll song ever recorded.

Hmmn... shouldn't this be in the Entertainment section. As historical as it is, it rather gave no direction known...
so, it seems, we must keep on searcing.

Cool

Bob Dylan's 'Like a Rolling Stone' is truly eternal.  It still sends chills through me.  We played that tune live at so many gigs in the late 60's, sometimes even twice a gig, and I never got tired of hearing the original or playing it live.  6 minutes long, a great slow tune for dancing, and just so cool.

But I didn't discover it until our bass player came to practice one night in 1967 with the lyrics written out and announced, "We're gonna do this tune."  He did a great job of singing it.

Thanks for that, Webb.  It's a great memory.
