I made the mistake of renaming an airfield by clicking on the reference point & adding RAF to the name I had there.   FS doesn't recognise it now of course & AFCAD2 doesn't either.
Is there a way I can change the name back to the original to make it useable again?    I appear to have destroyed weeks of work & I can't redo it all as it's too big & complicated.   Sad

Assuming you did not change the ICAO code - but just the name of the "Airport", Afcad will still recognize it by the code.

Or did I misunderstand what you did?

Hi Dave.   No - I left it as EGBK & just added RAF to Sywell.
When I came back to FS later I got the error message & the default EGBK loaded.  When I go to look at mine (AF2_EGBK_TW.bgl) with Afcad I only get the default one....

Error message?  What exactly does it say?

It was something about scenery Sywell not found.....etc,  click OK (?) to continue......I've removed it now.
I did try again with a default afcad in place & that loaded but of course without taxiways, etc.

I was wondering if there's a fault checker that can be used to see what the peoblem is.    It's taught me to keep a regular updated copy.......

I put it back & here's the message I first saw: SCENERY.CFG file error.  Local scenery directory (Addon Scenery\Sywell\SCENERY) in scenery Area.072 not found.  Click OK to continue.

Now I am really confused.  Seems you have two issues in play.

First I would search for any files (afcads in particular) which have EGBK as a part of the name.  Hopefully you will find the one which you edited and fear is lost.

Then check you scenery.cfg file to see what area 72 is (presumably it is your Skywell scenery) and if the path is written correctly.

And finally check your Addon scenery folder (or wherever you have placed your Skywell scenery) to see that it actually exists and that there is a scenery subfolder with at least one bgl in it.

And as a last resort you might try a System Restore to a day or so earlier.  SR is really not supposed to affect anything other than system files, but you might get lucky.

Opa, correct me if i am wrong here.

Open AFCAD221 and then Open the EGBK-Sywell AFCAD.  Look to see if it is named SYWELL RAF, if it is, take out the RAF and things should go back to being normal.

Fault Finder.... there is a built in AFCAD FAULT FINDER in the program. top row... TOOLS > FAULT FINDER.

if you still have your FS9 disks, look for :: AP947130.BGL  on disk 3 and 4.    ( http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1241545570 )

Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\EURW\scenery\AP947130.BGL

This is where the Original EGBK Scenery would be kept.

AREA.072 Missing: sounds like you deleted the scenery from your Addon Scenery folder, but did not take it out of the scenery library list, so that is causing a problem.   Put the scenery back in your Addon Scenery folder, and check the library to make sure that it IS listed.  (if not, add it to the list)  then restart and let the sim rebuild the SCENERY.CFG

You are quite right but it is not the default afcad he is seeking - it is the one he has spent many hours editing.

Good morning.   My Sywell folder is in Addon Scenery but searching doesn't pick up any EGBK despite AF2_Sywell_TW.cfg being in the Sywell folder!   I put AF2_Sywell_default.cfg in the Sywell folder & a search picks up that.  My edited cfg is just ignored.

Afcad doesn't pick it up but does the default.

[Area.072]
Title=Sywell
Local=Addon Scenery\Sywell
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=67

My asking about repairing the damage I've done is going to be be 'Can't be done' I can see, so I'll say thanks for your help.  I'm going to finish the Chalgrove I started & then come back to Sywell when I've done that.

It's a long time since I messed around with AFCAD. Presumably your problem is with your modified AF2 BGL file. Failing all else would it not be possible to edit the incorrect entry in this file with a hex editor?

No need to tell you to save a backup copy first.

Oh Hagar - it was going so well & I'd only been at for just over a day & I didn't save it before adding RAF to the Sywell.  Can't think why it messed up as that's all I did & have done it before without problems.  Copying wil be my first action now!

Hex editor?   I've not heard of that before....  Shocked

You can open BGL files with a hex editor. There's several freeware examples available. I've found Frhed useful in the past. Get the latest Stable Release version here. http://frhed.sourceforge.net/

From a quick look at an AF2 BGL file in Frhed the entry you need to edit is right at the bottom. If you're not confident with doing it perhaps you can mail it for me to have a go.
