Looks very much like a Ford Zephyr or Zodiac Mark IV.

My boss had a Zodiac Mk IV. He used to give me a lift to & from work in it.

What I find odd about it, is the complete lack of badges.
Most automakers, (at least US, since the dawn of the auto here) plaster their name everywhere on the car.

Most British cars of that era had a badge of some sort or the manufacturer's name, usually in chrome letters. Check out the photos from my link. They might have been removed from the one in Meck's photo or edited out.
I'm pretty sure it's a Ford as they featured the filler cap under a hinged plate just above the rear bumper like the one in the photo. Rear views of that model are difficult to find. The rear light clusters don't look right. I think it's more likely to be a Zephyr than a Zodiac. It might also be a German Ford.
PS. On second thoughts it could be a late model Cortina or Taunus.

Thanks alot! And I already searched the Opel-history but didn't find a match...
What confused me was the gastank-cap above the license-plate: looked american to me - haven't seen this before on a german car...
btw: that's what I call a quick-response!

Thanks Andy. That makes me feel a lot better.
What threw me was the position of the filler cap. I thought that was peculiar to Ford.

Don't feel too bad, I had to Google: "Cars with vinyl tops",
and that image just happen to appear in the results.
I had thought that horrible trend was limited to our side of the pond.
