That distorted photo is misleading. I'm not a great advocate of fisheye effects either in RL or FS. This one shows what it really looks like.

It kind of looks like they forgot to bolt something to the airframe in those compartments when the aircraft left the factory

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
