Recently went on vacation to the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf Shores Alabama and Pensacola FL to be exact) and the weather decided to give us a show!  And yes I swam in the oil spill, turned a pair of white board shorts into a pair of rust orange board shorts!!

It was just a tint of orange Glenno, enough to know that there was oil in the water, I'll post more shots later, they had full blown hazmat crews out there cleaning the tar balls out of the sand, we only had one day though where the oil sheen came in, the rest of the week the water was pretty clean except for a few tar balls here and there.

Good catch. The beach looks clean enough. Not sure swimming in that oil is such a great idea.

Wonderful Catch!

Beautiful sand!

I notice the water spout was playing around for the whole time the Folks on the beach assembled their tent and covered it, and lots of Folk gathered around beneath it!

I wonder how long the spout displayed from start to finish?

Paul.

It was a good ten to fifteen minutes Paul  Wink  She gave us a good show.  There was even a second water spout, seen in one of my shots, never landed but she tried.

EDIT - Second shot will show the second water spout dropping out of the clouds

Hagar - The water was rather clean, a few splashes of oil here and there, stained the trunks, but I still dove in and got what I asked for!!!!  A Gulf Coast Welcome!!!!!

I daresay it's a lot cleaner than my local beach at the moment. The world-famous Worthing seaweed is back with a vengeance. Roll Eyes

Yeah we have the Kelp out here on the Pacific Coast Doug, some nights it washes up on shore and the smell can be revolting if it piles up bad enough.

Interesting. What do the local authorities do about it? Our useless lot could do with a few tips. Wink

In answer to Paul's question, our local seaweed is unfortunately not the edible type - apparently. About the only use for it is fertiliser. What we have this time is not the usual kelp. Never seen it before.
