I'd be very grateful if someone could point me toward a topic that appeared not long ago about the importance of priority in the Scenery Library.  My searches can't find it  Sad
Thanks.

The funny thing is.....

I've read these "Library Priority List" recommendations before....

...and to tell you the troof...

.....my Library insertions are dotted at random, all over the place, and it doesn't seem to make any difference to the loading/running of my FS 2004..... Smiley...!

Each new addition is automatically popped on TOP of the list, and I tend to leave them there without any observable problems.

..but it would be nice for a knowledgeable, definitive explanation of the correct method, from top to bottom of the list... Wink...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Nav...on the "Wanted" List... Cool...!

I've asked for the very same thing, at multiple places...
and get different answers each time.

Even some addons I install, show different ways that it should look.

I don't think anyone really knows how it's supposed to be,
and at this point,
wouldn't know whether to believe them or not,
unless they had been a part of the design team for FS9   Grin

I think the important part is, all of the stuff that was in that list when you first installed FS9,
should always stay on the bottom,
with every new addon, being on top of them in the list.

And then within that,
certain addons will come with mesh, landclass, and scenery files,
that must be installed to that list in a certain order,
which is usually explained in their readme files.  Wink

There was an answer to this question I asked some time ago,
but I can't find it now.     I've noticed something new - some  aircraft appear white until I get close & then the textures appear.  Move away & they disappear.   I was wondering if this was a priority thing....my airfield needed to be in a diferent place?   BUT aircraft come with the textures in the same folder so I'm trying to figure out why this little glitch has appeared now......?

I've concocted an RAF Ibsely & am taking screenshots to exhibit at the Ibsely Historical Group open weekend (7-8th Aug) & want the parked aircraft to display their colours nicely for me, but I'm having problems composing shots as I want them.....I don't want textured aircraft in front & white on the distant yonder perimeter track, eg....!!

...there is also some confusion as to what "top" of the list means?

The lowest number at the top of the list, or the highest number at the bottom of the list?

Paul...listing slightly to the starboard side... Wink...!

I get this same issue with my MAIW aircraft.  Wink

The problem is most likely a mipmap issue with the textures of the planes.

Mipmaps, for those who don't know, control the level of detail one sees on the object as you move closer, or further away from the object.
Some graphics cards can handle these well, and others do not,
so some developers choose to include them in their objects textures, and some do not.

Scenery Priority would have nothing at all to do with aircraft textures displaying (static or otherwise), unless they've come up with a new way to display textures that I haven't heard of.  Undecided
The priority list would only affect ground textures if something were in an incorrect order, such as mesh & landclass with photo-real scenery.

Google is your friend for searching here...

It took me quite awhile to come to grips with the FS meaning of "priority".

I think a better term would be "precidence" - because when FS loads, it starts with the default (required) items which have the highest priority numbers as seen in the Scenery Library dialogue.

It then works it way up to whatever is sitting at Priority number 1 - and anything which sits higher than the default items will take precidence over what has been loaded before it.

This is easily proven by having an "exclude" for a scenery at a lower number than the scenery itself. It will exclude any objects in the area of the exclude which the author of the scenery has added.  Place the exclude so it is loaded first (a higher number than the scenery addition) - (to clear the area of unwanted autogen items) and then the new objects will appear.

Of course adding to the "confusion" is the fact the the scenery.cfg file lists everything exactly opposite - assigning area numbers to them.

Items are still loaded in the same manner - with the default items (starting at area 001) and working it's way to whatever you added last.

That is how I understand it anyway.

I just did my priorities last month.. I start with EZ Scenary Rwy 12, ect, then I add any land craft scenery, then land meshes, after that any individual scenery you want to add. I have found that you go from far out to close up. Some times you have to rearrange to make things right, but for the most part going far out to close in is the best way.  I keep all my scenery in a file called current scenery. The only things that I keep in add on scenery is AFCAD things like jetways & currant airport upgrades. It has worked for me & made add on scenery a simple project...If you would like more info send me a message. I'm on every day.

I see you've found what you were looking for. Wink

This is the only other one that I can find that has you & Paul in it:

And the most important thing to remember with ANY FS, is that a problem can start any time it wishes, even after having run problem free for years.  Wink
