Hey guys.

Today I randomly decided to go out and pick up a GTX 470, upgraded from a GTX 260.

With the GTX 260, I had no stutters whatsoever. I was using the 182.50 drivers, which were what did the trick, along with a BUFFERPOOLS setting of 300000000 to 400000000 in the fsx.cfg. I bought ORBX PNW, and that's when things went downhill performance-wise. I flew over KSEA and my FPS dropped a lot, down to about 8fps. Although there were no stutters, by no means was it 'smooth'.

I've now been testing the GTX 470 with settings from Nick to Jesus, to other stuff I've found online, to even what I know has worked for me in the past. Nothing I do will give me smoothness over KSEA in ORBX PNW (a heavy hitting area), although my frames run above 18fps constantly.

The stutters are killing me, and are making me want to pick up my chair and throw it at the monitor, then pick up the computer, and the FSX box along with FSX Acceleration, and throw that out the window from the 2nd story. LOL

Do you guys have any suggestions as to how to correctly set up FSX with a GTX 470?

My system specs are the following:

motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe
cpu: intel core i7 920 clocked @ 4.0ghz
ram: 6gb 1600mhz 6-6-6-24
psu: 750w

that's what matters lol

PLEASE HELP

Strange..........................

Make sure to delete fsx.cfg and let it rebuild.... other than that there's not much I can say.

You do not say what drivers and OS you are using.  From what I have read the GTX4XX's should use the 2XX series of drivers.

Here is a thread.

What are your display settings when flying in those areas?

Orbx addons are the most highly detailed, custom autogen filled, highest resolution type sceneries out there.
If that's the only place it's happening, then it may just be a matter of turning a few sliders down, to give your system some breathing room when flying in those locations.  Wink

As if FSX wasn't resource heavy enough, someone had to go and create the mother of all resource hogging addons to run in it.  Roll Eyes  Grin

I'm using drivers 257.15 which I read somewhere were recommended by Nick and I even set up nhancer like he suggested for those drivers.

ORBX is the heaviest hitting scenery out there for sure, but I've been able to fly in those areas before stutter-free, although frames were obviously lower, it was still smooth. Now the frames are higher, but it's so stuttery around heavy areas like Seattle. I really don't want to have to switch sliders for different areas, especially after UGRADING a graphics card, when with the old one I never had to do it.. lol

How can you set-up nHancer for the 200. drivers series, when the current version does not work with them?

Wait for version 2.6 and use NVCP in the meantime...

nHancer does not work with the 25X.XX drivers, my first post had a link, go to it for NickN's instructions on how to setup 25X.XX drivers with a GTX4XX GPU.

Have you tried Jesus's tweaks? I had quite a few stutters on my 285 before using them and now it's as smooth as anything Cheesy

I can see that you've your memory settings timed... What memory are you using?  Believe it or not, I've switched out my 4gb of "cheap" Supertalent Memory to 4gb of Corsair and it made all the difference!

Cheers!
