These screens were just too awesome and then Valve go and throw ArmaII back on sale, couldn't resist and had to buy it.
Hopefully when they sort out the merging retail copies and Steam copies I will pick up Arrowhead.

Operation Arrowhead is a standalone expansion to Arma II therefore you don't need Arma II to play it. Am I missing something here?

Nope...but if you have ArmA 2 you can merge all the content so you can use ArmA2 units in OA and vice versa
