Can you imagine the fit the FAA would throw if those things ever caught on?

The problem is you still need to be a licensed pilot in order to fly it, something no flying cars literature seems to point out. Instead the average non-pilot driver envisions getting stuck in traffic, unfolding the wings, and zooming off above the crowd. Truth be told, flying cars or roadable aircraft will never be anything more than a gimmick.

From the looks of the video, one would more than likely hafta be an accomplished pilot. It appeared to have sensitivity issues........and ya gotta land it almost 'flat', or ya risk a butt scrub. {wouldn't really call it's aft a tail, more like the back part}

And only 20 hours of flight time required to take to the air.........Though it does not look too sporty to me

Wasn't there a 'flying car' back in the fifties? The old 'Bob Cummings' TV show featured one, I guess since he was a partner in the venture.

The thing to consider, is it truly a flying car, or simply a roadable aircraft. While both terms mean kind of the same thing, from a marketing perspective it is a whole new ballgame. The notion of a car that flies brings to mind that a regular driver could potentially fly, while a roadable aircraft means an airplane that has the ability to be driven on the street. The difficulty these days is all the regulations that go into both the development of an aircraft, and a vehicle. Not to mention, how to get gate access at unfamilar airports when traveling in such a machine. Or would you have the legal ability to takeoff and land from public highways? Imagine driving down the interstate and deciding you wanted to fly.

I don't think a flying car (or roadable aircraft) will ever be practical for the reasons you've stated. At best it would be a compromise with safety an issue both on the road & in the air. I think the best idea is a conventional light aircraft with either folding or detachable wings that can be towed behind a car on a special trailer. These are already available & the idea is almost as old as aviation itself.
