This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending Planes of Fame Fly-in at Valle airport outside of Flagstaff Arizona. Main activity was high speed passes, if the aircraft was able that is. Cheesy The Tri-motor did its best, but it just kinda lumbered by.  Wink  Rides in the P-51 and the P-38 were somewhere along the lines of $2000 and rides in the Tri-motor were about $60. If you look closely, you can see the space in the P-38 is very limited, the rider is sitting where the radio stack once was and has to lean over pretty far in order to fit. Quite comical really  Grin

Among the participants were:

P-51
P-38
P-40
Japanese Val
Pt-22
Ford Tri-motor
And a T-28 was lurking around somewhere

I just thought I would share the experience with you!

Goodly morning BAWO343... Smiley

Wonderful shots and thanks for taking us along... Smiley

Any other shots of the Ford Tri-motor inside and outside?
The P38...close up of the cockpit and rear step?
The Jap Val, inside and outside?

Seeing those would be awesome.   Smiley

Much thanks again.

Lovely shots. Just one question though, is there more than one "Planes of Fame" museum. I visited the Planes of Fame museum at Chino. Are they a chain museum (for want of better words)?

Expat, not really sure about the museum. I suppose it may be. This is the website that had the info for the Fly-in, maybe it will have more. http://www.planesoffame.org/

Flying Trucker, I have a couple of those. Will post a few links just for you! Unfortunately, nothing of interiors, except for the p-38 which I was able to take pictures of a separate cockpit in the museum.

Looks like they are sister museums. Chino is listed under "visit us"

Thanks ever so much...very nice... Smiley

I always did like that P38 and the cockpit is a real work of art.
The vastness in size of the Pacific Theater made the twin engine fighter very suitable for the job.    Wink

No problem Trucker, The panel is quite nice now that you mention it!

Mic, I would have taken the ride had I not needed to pay for Gas for the rest of the weekend..  Undecided Did 5 hours of driving to get there, then 5 hours past to see family, then 8 hours back home.  Cool

And it's Arizona, the weather is always nice out  Grin

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

That P-38 shot is almost an abstract.  Upon first glance, all you see are the rear of the radiator which looks a bit like a jet, then you look closer and see the props.  It speaks to me and says the P-38 was ahead of its time.

Well done!
