A closer look at
Anne, who was practically ignored amidst the hoopla surrounding her skipper...
The jury-rigged bowsprit... during the second week out, they bumped into a freighter in the night, and Reid chose to saw off the damaged steel and continue with limited foresail capability. It worked out OK because he was not racing to get anywhere, but it limited his ability to evade adverse weather. It takes a lot of experience to manage that, especially for three years nonstop, most of it single-handed!
Not squared away yet, and a lot of the hardware is worn out, but you can see that Reid made good use of all that "free time", just to be able to continue to sail. After some work she'll be ready for more adventures, and I'm sure he is not done adventuring yet.
It's great to see those lovely old wood masts back in New York!!
