Nope Beckham is out of the squad but we've got the likes of Gerrard or Lampard that can easily match him in the freekick area., Its going to be a tough one tonight.

1-1 at the moment.
Let's hope we won't have another goal slip up.

US defeats England 1-1.
This game was very similar to the war of 1812. Titan England tries to defeat new upstart United States, where the US fighting to a draw does feel like a victory.

After the US was gifted with that goal - it was assumed that England would exact revenge and more in the second half but the underdogs held on - close, a few times, but no cigars. Hopefully, there's a behind the net video showing the flight of the mishandled goal shot. They say that new ball swerves - maybe that was a factor. And how about those 'Vuvuzelas' - South Africa's gift to the world of soccer

They keep complaining about the new ball and the players and goalies hate it. Actually today a goalie was in tears for the new ball but adidas said its the most accurate ball ever produced...

Some good games today, Watched Germany crush Austrailia 4-0. The Serbia and Ghana game was good at the end also. A serbia player did an intentional hand ball on a corner kick for Ghana which resulted in a penalty kick for Ghana in the 83rd minute. Ghana scored and won the game 1-0.
As for Algeria v Slovenia (England and U.S. were hoping for a draw between these two) but Slovenia won and took the lead in Group C which put England and U.S. in a tough position.

African countries are notriously unreliable, Japan winning is a small shock perhaps but really it was a 50-50 chance game beforehand.
Italy not winning is the bigger shock indeed though not much was expected from the Italians. At least here in Europe.
Today holds two interesting matches... Ivory Coast vs Portugal and The Brazillians vs the unknown North Koreans..... I expect the last match to be a brutal slaughter of the Korean side....

Well, that was unexpected.
2-1 to Brazil, one of the best teams in the world; against one of the worst in the world, well done North Korea for that.

In the 89th minute, I think Brazil was just kindof done...a 2-0 lead is pretty much locked for a win.
Well done to New Zealand in scoring there goal with less than a minute left in the game, first ever world cup goal for them and taking a win from Slovakia. As for the Ivory Coast and Portugal game, I saw the first half and Ivory Coast was doing very well. A good draw against Portugal.
Overall-good day of soccer/football

Oh and if you didnt hear, FIFA will NOT ban the vuvuzela's.....thankfully.
FIFA gets it although im not sure how noone else does. No matter what even if its annoying its part of the South African Soccer. Its just something they do in South Africa, otherwise they shouldn't have had the World Cup there. If you talk to some soccer analysts they think that its part of the game. Other countries have other ways to make noise and it could or could not be annoying. When you pack a house full of 90,000 fans its just stupid to say that nothing will annoy someone. Either way something will annoy someone and for the soccer players to complain seems stupid also. If you play soccer around the world, how can a noise distract you?
Countries have so many ways to express noise whether its annoying or not. They should be thankful they are playing in the World Cup, not finding ways to make excuses as to why they play bad.
...although the soccer ball on the other hand....I think that's an okay excuse since it seems almost all the soccer players are complaining about it.

Maybe another reason I dont want to get it banned is because I like the sound. Im in consideration of buying one...
Also if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone, search for vuvuzela app.
South Africa plays tomorrow. Its gunna be a crazy house full with vuvuzela's for sure.

What is happening?
The US draw with England...Italy draw with Paraguay...the N.Koreans manage to get a goal against the most successful national football team in the world! I think there will be quite a few surprises yet to come, however.
Still angry over the England vs. USA game though

The swiss result has just thrown the competition into a complete unknown. Everyone had Brazil and spain meeting in the finals. That is now a lot less likely to happen from what I understand and more likely to take place in the next round. could open up the door for a shock final.

^Haha...I don't think I'd be too surprised if N.Korea got into the semi-finals. Their game against Brazil was a real eye opener.
I think it'll be an Argentina vs. Germany final.
I heard that because so many national teams have experienced European coaches (Nigeria have Lagerback, Ivory coast have Eriksson etc.) it's leveled the playing field between most of these nations. Also, lots of the players now play for clubs in top English, German, Italian and Spanish leagues, so they're all very well trained.

You wont be seeing these types of upsets the whole cup. Although Spain lost, they played a GREAT game and had many many many scoring chances...they just couldnt get it done and like I heard, if you dont score on your scoring chances the other team will score on theirs. Just wasnt Spain's day. Although Argentina in the World Cup Final? I dont see that. I have Brazil and Germany for the finals in my bracket. I dont find that North Korea goal suprising or exciting at all. The game was practically over, big deal.

The way that North Korea play they'll get two draws and they can't go into the next round with two points.
Bafana Bafana are the first team to practically be eliminated. 1 pt after two game is generally not enough.
Today is going to be interesting
Argentina and South Korea can both be sure of the next round if they win this game. All bets are on the Argentinians but korean discipline might ruin things. Greece and Nigeria must win for a last chance.... a draw isn´t good enough there! I thing Nigeria will take that one.
Also France vs Mexico..... a win to be relatively sure of the next round..... Mexico is going to win....

I thought Ji Jun Nams (did I get it right?) goal for North Korea was pretty good...especially if you think that the N.Korean team had such a small budget they were unable to hire a football pitch to train on haha.
I'm still pretty sure it'll be an Argentina vs. Germany final. I'd like to see England in the finals...but it is quite unlikely, although I think we'll get better as things start hotting up. I don't get how people seem to think Gareth Barry is going to make a real difference though?
I think tonights match will be France 2: Mexico 0.

To be honest I think the best team in the World Cup right now is Germany so with you saying that you think Germany will be in the final is a good choice, although they arent favored, odds dont really matter at all. They're the only team that dominated their first game and they played wonderful and it wasnt against a crappy Korean team or a no name it was Australia and they said Germany might have gotten upset that game because the Aussies have alot of talent but they're players are just old.
You know Germany's the youngest team in the World Cup right now, so they have lots of energy and speed.
I got 2/3 picks right today, Greece win or draw and Mexico win or draw and both teams won today!
I was more suprised about Greece's win. I turned on the game early this morning to see a goal against them...
USA plays tomorrow! Anyone excited?!! Although I cant watch it, I got me tickets to the U.S. Open

I was so zoned out when I wrote that I got England and Germany mixed up for some reason. Maybe it was cause I was thinking of US so England came to mind.
I gotta fix that, I sound stupid

I think R.Green will be our keeper in the Eng v Alg match tonight. It would be a good idea to give him a second chance in my opinion. In the last few years I think he's become a really good keeper (although I don't know what he was playing at last week).
I nearly choked on my lunch at school break when I found that Germany had lost to Serbia
It's not looking too good for the US sadly at the moment. Maybe they'll be able to gain another draw...although it'll be tough as the Slovenian team has seems to look that little bit more creative on the pitch.
It's going to be hard to guess what the score tonight will be. Will England be another 'titan' to faulter? I think we might (if we're lucky) get a 2:0 win.

Well the next North Korea game will be the first and last in their goodbye tour....since none of them are likely to see daylight ever again.
Spain did well...Chile did well
From now on it's the group decider day... 2 groups per day...today will hopefully mean the end of the French in the tournament and thus a win for the home nation! I'm rooting for the Bafana Bafana!!

Well at least one of the African teams is through! so many Kudos to Ghana and to bad for the Aussies and the Serbs
1/8th finalist matches will be England vs Germany which will lead to the exit of another "great" football nation and the U.S of A vs Ghana..... with the entire african continent rooting for Ghana. So these two matches are very hard to predict... both the usa and ghana are technically impaired but make up for that with spirit and teamplay. Tommy vs Herman... both great teams in very bad shape.

I dont think US winning in the 91th minute was luck at all. I think it was them getting paid back for all the blown calls on them that shouldove been goals. If both of those goals counted (which they should have since they were clean) they would have had 2 wins and advanced even if they tied Nigeria.
Great come back, and by one of my favorite US players Donovan...I remember when he was the San Jose Earthquakes years ago.

Not surprising since the World Series is strictly American (and one Canadian team).
They love it in Mexico, Philippines and Japan though.

OK, just to show my complete ignorance of the subject, why when the 11 over paid ballet dancers get it wrong is it the managers fault? He is not the one who is running about kicking the ball. These highly strung "athletes" are paid a huge some would say indecent amount of money, why do they even need a manager. One would have thought that they already know how to play. After all you would not be paying them that amount if they had no idea how to kick a ball around a field and between two sticks into a net. Someone please enlighten me

That was a pretty dirt half between Netherlands and Spain... hope more goals scored next half!
I can see it going to a penalty shootout though.
Come on Spain!

The only entertainment I got out of the first 90 minutes were all those yellow cards...and the Dutch player complaining about how he kicked it to the goalie and wanted a penalty kick...or the kung fu panda kick to the chest...
Oh and then the nice goal in extra time...and seeing the Dutch go MAD about offsides when he was onsides by a good 5 or more yards
Congrats Spain
To bad Torres didnt start...
..such a bad tourney for him..
Sincerely, Tyler

Sigh... we lost. Spain was better. Although the Dutch team (literally) tried to kick them off the field, the Spanish didn't budge and had the ref on their side.
They are on their way home. Tomorrow there will be a big party in Amsterdam for no reason...

I'm taking Paul the octopus with me to Vegas. He was perfect this world cup, including upset picks of Serbia and Spain beating Germany.

Well you have to be proud of the Dutch team for making the finals. I would have thought Brazil would have went, not the Netherlands. Although sad to see them lose for the third time in a final. They're due for a World Cup now..
But a pretty interesting article about what we should see in the next World Cup...and he says no more Paul the Octopus...

We have a league called the MLS...Major League Soccer...unpopular and nobody really cares about it.
