I was driving south on US 101 out of Oxnard a few weeks ago when I saw a B-17 rise from the runway. It rose, then banked right and flew into the distance.
Fabulous to see such a sight.
I thought as I watched it disappear: "That airplane and the sacrifices of the men who flew it more than sixty years ago allow me to live in Freedom today." May God Bless Boeing and the men who flew the thousands of B-17s over Europe all those years ago. And we cannot forget the B-24s, the B-25s, the P-51s, the P-47s and all the aircraft flown by brave young men-- so many of whom did not come back. We owe them more than we can ever repay...
