DC-9 tail-wheel lock ? (Read 1048 times)

My default DC9 won't steer.   The tail-wheel lock lever is in the off position but it still won't steer.   Can anyone tell me why?    I've tried other rear wheel steering aircraft & they all work.

Did you mean DC-3? It should have a fully castoring tailwheel with differential brakes for ground steering like the real aircraft. You can also use engine power to help initiate a turn.

Hi Gypsymoth,

Open your DC3 aircraft.cfg file (notepad will do) and find the “contact points” section.

Make a copy of it first in case you mess up !

The first line should read

point.0=1,  -56.00,  0.0,   -2.3,   1200.0,  0,  0.60,  180.0,  0.200,  2.5,  0.695,  0.0,  0.0, 0.0,   0.0,   0.0
 

Alter the 8th set of figures [ 180.0 ] to 60.0 and save the change.

Fire up FS2004 and you should have a DC3 with a steerable tailwheel.

Yes - I put an AP into my Auster for just that purpose.  I'll have to get back to you tho' as I'm at my Mac right now.  When I have the FS machine fired up I'll add my 'how to' unless some-one else does  Cool

Here's how I put an AP into my Auster:

In the panel cfg I added it as Window03
[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=Radio Stack
Window02=GPS
Window03=Autopilot
Window04=Cpit Cmdr   (a useful Glenn Copeland gauge)

[Window03]
file=Ap window.BMP
size_mm=300,54
window_size_ratio=1.000 
position=4
visible=0
ident=1002

gauge00=Lear_45!Autopilot,  2,2

You can also add it to the actual panel like this:
gauge43=Lear_45!Autopilot,  9,707,200,55
You can edit these numbers to move it around until you find the place you want it at in other panels.

so my Auster has 2 to choose from   Cool

Stewpot's steerable tailwheel edit will work but the default DC-3 already has differential brakes. To use them for ground steering simply apply brakes with rudder.

Differential braking works fine with a joystick with twist-grip rudder control.

As Hagar has said you can steer this bird with differential braking, which I do with the aircraft that the .cfg fix doesn't work for.
I use a simple joystick and use F10 and F11 for differential braking.

Until now the joystick has always worked but I now have Golden Wings3  so it might be a glitch with that.   The fix worked....... Cheesy
