Hi fellas,

Just a quick question, is there any information around that outlines the speed/alt requirements for climbing the default Learjet 45 to the very high cruise altitudes?

I know up to FL330 it's .80 Mach - but what about beyond that? Does it go any higher?

Cheers guys
Stew

I'm sure that for the sake of FS, .80 mach is plenty accurate enough, but if you want true accuracy, try searching for the POH (Pilot's Operating Handbook).  I searched and came up with not much after a few minutes, but you could get luckier.  You could try this page which has several PDFs about flying the Lear 45.

..the funny thing is...

In my FS 2004 default Bombardier Learjet 45 the maximum I can achieve before I get an over-speed warning is 330 Knots (Mach 0.5) at FL 50...to FL 100.

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Nav...(low and fast?)...  Wink...!

Assuming you meant FL 050 to FL 100, then you are too low.  On jets there are two redlines, one for airspeed (which is about 330 kts indicated in the Lear), and one for Mach.  At low altitude you will max out the indicated long before reaching higher Mach.  The Lear will cruise at .80, but you have to be above FL300..

That probably explains it...

But most of my flying is at low level, on GA Piston/Tiurbine Prop Aircraft, admiring the scenery....Wink...!
The Learjet 45 is just an excuse for going a little faster....but still at low level... Wink...
FL050....5,000 Feet ASL.
FL100...10,000 Feet ASL.
I can never get her to go faster than 330 Knots (0.5 Mach) at those low altitudes.

FL300...and the passengers are complaining that they cant see the scenery!... Cry..... Grin....!

Paul....G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Nav... Cool...!

Fozz, you are just flying too fast, too low.  Actually in real life, regulations limit airspeed to 250 kts below 10,000 feet.

Buggar!.... Angry...!

That's why I keep getting those threatening letters from the FAA.... Shocked....!

I suppose that only applies to GA and Commercial Civilian Aircraft at low levels
Low flying, high speed Military Jets...a different set of rules?

Looks like I've got to stick to my Beech Baron 58 and King Air 300 to hurry between Airfields at low level...to comply with the speed rules...and still admire the scenery down below....Undecided...!

The whole of the UK is classed as a military low-flying area. http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/AboutDefence/WhatWeDo/AirSafetyandAviation/Low...
Military aircraft do not have to comply with civil regulations but are restricted to subsonic speed over land.

Funny you mention the Baron. This was the incident that caused the the 250 knot speed restrictions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TWA_Flight_553

Ta, Doug, for that bit of info... Smiley..!

It looks as though I must avoid getting too excited with speed at low levels, during my California excursions... Wink...!

My trusty, turbo-charged, Beech Baron 58 will just about reach the maximum speed allowed...(almost)....
...which is nice!... Kiss...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Nav..and occasionally in a hurry... Grin...!
