Have you tried going into the settings and changing the sensitivity?

Maybe this sounds so stupid and simple but make sure your joystick is plugged in correctly. After that, try to see if it's a game problem by right-clicking and selecting mouse-yoke. If it works without issue, it's probably your joystick.

Strawberry Yogurt Cool

I went outside once. The graphics weren't all that great.

nope, doesn't sound stupid at all, that was the second thing i checked. i hadn't thought of trying mouse yoke, but i just did it and the same result, minimal movement on the elevator but full aileron movement

Turn off your autopilot  Smiley

Sometimes it gets stuck on and causes the problem you describe when you start a new flight.

depending on what OS you are using...

WINXP:

START / SETTINGS / CONTROL PANEL / PRINTERS AND OTHER HARDWARE / GAME CONTROLLERS // (select your game controller) \ Properties

make sure that your controller is working properly in WINDOWS.

If you suspect any issues, which you already do or you would not be here asking for help, select Troubleshoot to see if there is anything covered there that could help.

I suspect that it is more of something in the Flight Sim itself than your controller being that it is functioning correctly in other games.

if all of these checks turn out that your controller is perfectly fine, find your FSX.CFG file and rename it to FSX.ORIG.CFG  or FSX.BAK, then go start your simulator again. (it will rebuild your FSX.CFG on its own...... granted you will have to go back through the settings and reset everthing.   That is the only downfall of this)

then come back and let us know how things turn out and if anything changes or stays the same.

You have to set the Show Hidden files to see it.
Control Panel > Folder Options > View > tick Show Hidden files and Folders > click Apply.

Then go to;
C: > Users > Your name > AppDate > Roaming > Microsoft > FSX folder

Before you go and rename FSX's central nervous system.. have you tried the autopilot thing??

Seriously.. It could be that simple and you can save a lot of re-assign / settings tweaking time.

Cool
