I want to move an airfeild I've made to another location to avoid doing it all over again.  I tried edting the Airport Reference Point & saving it hoping it would appear in the new location but the Reference Point just disappeared.......there doesn't seem a way to insert another - or is there?
Thanks.

Unless you are moving just a few feet (rather than miles away) you really cannot do it.

The reason is that every segment of the airport - taxiway lines, runways, parking spaces and so on - has their own set of coordinates and every one of them would need to be adjusted to the new location.

Bottom line - it is not just the reference point that would have to changed.

Just not worth the effort.

Just to clarify my statement about moving an airfield "a few feet"........

You can do that by choosing the "select all" option from the Edit menu of the Afcad program.  That will highlight all elements.

Then you can hold down your CTRL key while you "drag" the entire layout with your left mouse key depressed wherever you want it (within reason).

This will also work for large moves.  Granted, it takes a while to move from one spot to another, but if you select all each time, hold shift and drag to the other side of the screen, then select all again and repeat, you should be able to reach your destination.  Just make sure you zoom all the way out first and it won't take nearly as long.  You won't be able to line everything up on the first try, but after a few reloads of FS you'll be fine.

STOP PRESS:   I moved my airfield & here's a wrinkle I used to get it where I wanted it: I slewed to a position where I wanted the north end of a runway & put a normal blue node there on the Afcad.  Then, I dragged the whole airfield & stopped the runway at the blue node.  Bingo.

The only problem now is none of the stuff I added via Instant Scenery is there, so can I drag/use that bgl for this new airfield?  I suspect more knowledgable folks can tell me, but I suspect I'll have to add everything again....?

Anyhow - dragging works a treat so THANK YOU both.   Cheesy

You can move the Instant Scenery objects, but it would be one at a time, AFAIK...

Yes - I just thought there might be a wrinkle to get it all there in one fell swoop!   I think it's quicker just to add to a new bgl.....

Will this work with default airfields?

There is a small grass strip that is a 1/2 mile from my house, and in the game, it's on the wrong side of the road, and I just want to move it across the street.

http://www.city-data.com/airports/Roberts-Field-Airport-Sulphur-Springs-Indiana....

When flying from it VFR the first time in FS9, I almost made it to Indianapolis before I realized I wasn't flying to Dayton, Ohio.  Embarrassed

Well, for something like that, you can move all the runways and taxiways using AFCAD, but you won't be able to move any buildings or models.  Those will have to be deleted (using an exclusion) and then reinserted manually using an object placer program or Gmax.

That's perfect!

There are no buildings, no taxiways, and just one simple little FS9 grass strip!  Grin
It's just a little strip in the middle of a corn field that the farmer who owns it uses for his crop duster. Being so close to my house makes it my new home strip I suppose.  Smiley

I love the easy fixes! Smiley

What's better, I can afterwords add in his barn & house using a scenery creator.  Cool

I would recommend you use ADE9X instead of Afcad2.

It it a much better program with more abilities and reliabilities.

With ADE9X you can move default buildings and such.

I would assume Shane's grass strip has no approaches, if it did ADE9X can deal with those also.

If you want to spruce up your field you can place objects with ADE9X, which you can't with Afcad2.

One issue that may come up with moving a field is autogen being in the way. Afcad2 cannot deal with that at all. ADE9X can create excludes, though that's not the best way to handle that issue.

For that I recommend SBuilder with which you can create a proper airport background that will exclude autogen automatically, and delete the existing one. You can also create a flatten polygon if your new location needs it.

You can get ADE9X here- http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/

And SBuilder here- http://www.fsdeveloper.com/

Make sure you get the version for FS2004 and not SBuilderX.

Hope this helps.

cheers,
Joe

You're a life saver here JoBee!!

I had just ran into the flatten polygon problem, and was coming back here to find the solution.  Grin

I've got it moved to exactly where it should be, so now I will give ADE9X a try.

Thanks so much!  Smiley
