Not picking, but I thought you only got the bonus points if the quali picks finished in the same order in the race? If not I'll need to go through the seasons results to check because I'm sure we've had a few picks for the 3 in quali.
Thanks for keeping it updated
I am catching up

I don't think the top 6 is a good idea ......... However I did make the suggestion at the end of last season to give extra bonus points
if you match
exactly
the top 3 on the grid after qualifying... irrelevent of the finishing position in the race.
I think in one race last season I had as my prediction the exact grid position but the race finished in a completely different order.
eg Grid 123 = Hamilton, Massa, Alonsso = 5 bonus points for the exact match of all 3... but the race might finish Massa, Hamilton, Alonsso giving 20 points for the race. Alternatively none of them might finish but you still get the bonus points.
Disqualification and grid penalties will make the bonus void and with some penalties being held till the next race the predictions for that race will have to take into account that penalty in order to get the points .

Welcome to the new season of formula one.
Bahrain kicks off the season this year.
Those familliar know the routine, all predictions to be in before the start of Saturday qualifying please.
Those who are new to the game, you get 10 points if you select the correct driver in the correct place, you get 5 points if you get the correct driver but in the wrong place.
The competition will be, decided by predicting the podium positions as was used last year,
and if you correctly predict the front row for the start of the race you will earn an extra 5 points.
Quote:
OK, to clarify.
Pick who you think will finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
If they line up on the grid in that order you get a 5 point bonus... even if they all crash at the first corner.
If they're required to win also, then that's probably never going to happen.
It felt like more of a consolation prize than anything else.
Let me know what the final decision is, and I'll adjust my points as needed.

If thats how it is, thats how it is. We'll have none of the FIA well we said this, but meant this rubbish lol. I've had such a busy year my poor brain struggles to remember things.
I will double check the predictions though because I am sure there was a couple of times people have come close, only for a crash or something to take the double away. Again though that could just be my brain melting

I'm hoping the other teams pick their game up to mix it up.
I wont deny I am taking wild shots in the dark to at least try and play catch up.
My original pick had button in 3rd, that was quickly clear he wouldn't finish there. Then I had Alonso, but I heard after FP3 he might need an engine change, so I took the gamble on Hamilton in 3rd despite the poor practice showing.
Germany will be a tough one to pick I think. It's not so much about aero, but Mechanical grip, especially the last section. Which would suit the Mclarens, but the first sections would suit the Red Bulls, but the Mclarens top speed comes into it on that straight. So I think it'll be a toughy.

If I had stayed with my original picks this week, I'd have been
much better off points wise.
Germany is usually good for a wet race, and one of Barichello's better tracks, wouldn't mind seeing him do well there again, but that is a long shot.
Edited:
Did the qualify double check, there have been plenty of 1-2 calls, but no one had the top 3 starters picked.

The bonus points were intended as exactly that .......... you only get them if the 123 finish is the same as the quali order after any penalties in both the race and quali are taken into account.
eg If the race finishes Button, Hamilton, Webber ....... and that is the same order as they qualified, then the points are awarded. If however the order of qualification was that above ....... but Hamilton was given a grid penalty between quali and the race ...... then no bonus.
The idea of it was that it was ment to be rare ........

This is 100% contradictory to your quoted post above, as well as the other two,
but since it was your idea to start with, that's how I'll take it from here on out.
I've removed the 5 extra points from my score.

Pick the top 3 on the PODIUM only, ie the race positions. If the qualifying finishes the same as your race predictions you pick up a bonus of 5 points.
Making 2 different selections for qualifying and the race will only complicate things.

I won't argue with three people.
I've re-added the 5 points.
Should we drop the bonus idea from here on,
or just continue with the understanding now that :
If your picks are the top 3 qualifiers,
and
they finish the race in that same order,
then
you get the 5 bonus points.
I'm good for either way.

I don't see what was wrong with the original idea....we all agreed with it in March.
So I propose we continue with 5 bonus points if you predict top 3 quali, and the old scoring for the race. So if you pick three drivers who come 123 in quali and race you get 35. If you pick three drivers who come 123 in quali, but all crash in the race, you get 5 points.

I'm saying it should be the 3 and 3 personally. That was how I thought it was going to be when originally suggested. Thus making it extra benificial to get all 3.
I'll leave it open to a vote though. Either way we need a final answer before Germany or it gets scrapped altogether.

I know we're not picking the qualifying order, I haven't been trying to do that at all. I just got lucky this week and happen to do that.
I have a rough enough time just trying to pick a finishing order that I can be happy with.
In the one way, it sounds like they have to start
and
finish in the 123 spots to get the 5.
In the other way, it sounds like you get the 5 as long as you called the starting 123 spots, irrelevant of how they finish.
One is conditional, the other is conciliatory.
